5 WWE arch-rivals who were put together to form a tag team

Wrestling is a solo sport, superstars work for decades for the chance to be signed by a company like WWE, but more often than not, the creative team make the decision to put them into a tag team.

Whilst there are some stars who are able to become stars in WWE alone, there are others whose path to the top has to include a run as part of a tag team. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns began their career in a stable and have since branched out, but this isn't the case for every star.

There are many wrestlers who are forced together as a team when they are already rivals because the creative team has nothing for the two stars at that time or because it makes much more compelling television.

#5. Cesaro and Sheamus

Cesaro and Sheamus became known as The Bar after RAW General Manager Mick Foley decided that the two men would work better as a team than they could as rivals.

Ahead of their union, Cesaro and Sheamus had a number of show-stealing matches as part of a best of seven series. The final match of the series was a draw after neither man was able to continue, which led to the WWE Hall of Famer deciding that the two men could work better as team mates.

Sheamus and Cesaro went on to dominate the Tag Team Division on both RAW and SmackDown where they lifted the WWE Tag Team Championships on five separate occasions. The Bar has now gone their separate ways and interestingly Cesaro is now SmackDown Tag Team Champion but alongside Shinsuke Namakura, whilst Sheamus is part of a feud with Jeff Hardy.

Since Cesaro and Sheamus are both on SmackDown together at present, there is a possibility that the team could come together again in the future.

#4. MVP and Matt Hardy

Before Matt Hardy left WWE and become "Broken" there was a time when the former Tag Team Champion was known as "Version 1." It was throughout this time that Hardy stepped into a rivalry with MVP.

MVP was a fresh-faced star in WWE and had only recently won the United States Championship when he began his feud with Hardy and it was a feud that went through a number of swerves.

MVP and Hardy then faced off a number of times in interesting segments, much like the recent feud between The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders.

Porter than claimed that he could win the Tag Team Championships with anyone that General Manager Teddy Long gave to him and bragged to the point where he said he would team with the next guy to walk through the door.

Matt Hardy was the man who came through the door and the duo went on to win the Tag Team Championships and embark on a title run that lasted more than two months.

Hardy was sidelined with a knee injury and when the star made his WWE return, the duo continued their rivalry.

#3. Shawn Michaels and John Cena

One of the greatest storylines heading into a WrestleMania match surrounded the feud between Shawn Michaels and John Cena. The two men faced off in the main event of WrestleMania 23 for the WWE Championship back in 2007, but ahead of this match, the duo were Tag Team Champions.

Cena and Michaels won the WWE Tag Team Championships in an impromptu match against Rated RKO the night after the Royal Rumble. Michaels then went on to win a triple threat match that also included Triple H and Edge to become the number one contender to Cena's Championship.

The two men were able to build up their WrestleMania match whilst also retaining their Tag Team Championships for almost four months. It wasn't until WrestleMania when Cena defeated Michaels to retain his WWE Championship, that it was obvious that their time as a team had come to an end.

Michaels turned on Cena the night after WrestleMania and cost his former friend the Tag Team Championships, which marked the end of an interesting storyline between the two men.

#2. Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton

The most recent storyline on this list surrounds Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton who were friends turned enemies back in 2017. Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble in January which meant that he could choose which Champion to face at WrestleMania, a decision that became much harder when Bray Wyatt won the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber.

Orton and Wyatt were Tag Team Champions ahead of the Royal Rumble and Orton declared that he had relinquished his Championship match at WrestleMania in order to show his devotion to Wyatt.

Of course, The Viper can never be trusted and just weeks later he proved that he was coming for that WWE Championship when he set fire to Wyatt's compound. The two men later went on to face off at WrestleMania with Orton taking the WWE Championship.

The rematch a few weeks later took place inside a House of Horrors and wasn't for the WWE Championship, which means that Wyatt was never handed his contractual rematch. This was due to the fact that Wyatt had been drafted over to RAW.

#1. John Cena and Batista

In the summer of 2018, just a year after John Cena's Tag Team Championship run alongside Shawn Michaels, the company decided to allow the former WWE Champion to step into another interesting storyline.

Batista was drafted over to Monday Night RAW alongside John Cena after years of being the main star on Friday Night SmackDown. It was obvious that Batista was going to be a problem for Cena in the main event of the show, but before the duo could embark on a feud of their own, they went on to win the WWE Tag Team Championships.

The issues between the two men meant that their reign is somewhat forgettable since it only lasted a week, but it proved that Cena and Batista had the chemistry to go on to have a show-stealing feud.

Batista and Cena went on to face off at SummerSlam where surprisingly it was The Animal who came out on top in what was a fantastic match from two of the biggest stars in WWE at that time.
