5 times WWE Superstars were warned about a certain colleague

With over 20 matches and segments taking place across WWE’s various weekly shows, it is inevitable that some Superstars will find themselves involved in storylines that they would rather not be in.

Many stories have emerged over the years about Superstars asking WWE management if their storyline can be changed. Some men and women have even requested that they have a different opponent.

On rare occasions, WWE Superstars have even been warned by a colleague about the potential dangers of being involved in a storyline with a certain person.

This happened before the infamous match between The Undertaker and Goldberg in 2019, as you can see below. Superstars including The Big Show and Alexa Bliss have also been advised not to face another WWE employee.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at five times WWE Superstars were warned about working with a specific person on the roster.

#5 WWE legend Batista warned The Undertaker about Goldberg

The Undertaker defeated Goldberg at WWE Super ShowDown 2019 in a match that was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Goldberg legitimately knocked himself out in the early stages of the match, which meant the rest of the nine-minute encounter was full of uncoordinated moves and mistakes.

Speaking to Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin a few days after the event, WWE legend Batista revealed that he warned The Undertaker about the possible risks of stepping into the ring with Goldberg.

“I called ‘Taker Friday. I called him Friday and I said, ‘Hey man, is there any way I can talk you out of this?’ and he just started laughing. He goes, ‘You know, when they talked to me about it a while back it sounded good, but I’m obligated, so we’re doing it.’”

One of the most dangerous spots in the match came when The Undertaker landed awkwardly on his neck after a botched Jackhammer from Goldberg.

Fortunately for ‘Taker, he did not suffer a serious injury in the match and was able to return to the ring one month later to team with Roman Reigns against Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon at Extreme Rules.

#4 WWE veteran The Big Show warned Kofi Kingston about The New Day

The New Day have established themselves as one of the top WWE teams of all time. However, it cannot be denied that Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods initially struggled to connect with WWE’s fans after they formed the group in 2014.

Prior to The New Day forming, Big E had a five-month reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion and Kingston had been on the verge of breaking into the main-event scene at one stage. Woods, however, had not been involved in any meaningful storylines on WWE’s main roster.

Speaking on Open Late with Complex in 2018, Big E recalled that The Big Show often told Kingston that he should focus on himself and ditch his tag team partners during the first few months of The New Day’s run.

“So when we were trying to get off the ground, Big Show would pull Kofi aside and say, ‘What are you doing with those two? They're bringing you down. You should be in the World Title picture.’ This isn't a time where it's like, ‘Oh Big Show, it's all fun and games.’ Like, we're struggling to get on TV and we're thinking we're gonna get fired.” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]

Woods added that, to The Big Show’s credit, he later acknowledged The New Day’s success and admitted that he was completely wrong to criticize the group in the way that he did.

#3 WWE veteran The Big Show was warned about John Cena

Sticking with The Big Show... On an episode of The Bump in April 2020, the seven-foot WWE Superstar admitted that he requested to put his WWE United States Championship on the line against the up-and-coming John Cena at WrestleMania XX in 2004.

At the time, Big Show saw a lot of potential in Cena and believed he could go on to become one of WWE’s top Superstars. However, as the WWE veteran recalled, not everybody felt the same way.

“That day I had about eight little private meetings where all these guys were telling me why I shouldn’t work with this kid because he’s a flash in the pan, he’s this, he’s that, and I’m like, ‘No, I think there’s something more to the guy.’ And years later now those same people that questioned him line up to shake his hand, tell him how amazing he is.”

As Big Show said, Cena went on to cement his status as one of the greatest WWE Superstars in history during his full-time run with the company between 2002 and 2016.

Show also joked that he has “a nose for talent” and knew that Cena would be successful before everybody else.

#2 WWE legend Chris Jericho warned Neville about Enzo Amore

To clarify, Chris Jericho is on good terms with Enzo Amore. The two men worked together in WWE and have since discussed the wrestling business and Amore’s career on an episode of Talk Is Jericho.

That being said, Jericho told Busted Open Radio in 2017 that he once warned Neville (now known as PAC in AEW) that he would have to make Amore look good if they ever fought over the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

“I told Neville this months ago, I said, 'There's gonna come a time when you're gonna have to make him look good, that's the job of guys like you and me. It doesn't matter if he's good. That's not his responsibility, that's yours now.'” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]

As it turned out, Neville walked out on WWE during his storyline with Amore, who became the main focus of the cruiserweight division following his colleague’s departure.

Amore revealed on Jericho’s podcast that, contrary to what people might think, he is best friends with Neville in real life and the two men were talking to each other on the day that the Brit no-showed WWE RAW.

#1 WWE Superstar Nia Jax warned Alexa Bliss about Ronda Rousey

Alexa Bliss suffered two concussions in separate WWE matches against Ronda Rousey in September 2018 and October 2018, causing her to miss a total of four months of in-ring action.

One of Bliss’ real-life best friends, Nia Jax, told a story on Paige’s Twitch stream in April 2020 about the time she warned Bliss to stop getting back into the ring with a certain opponent.

“She [Alexa Bliss] was so nervous, she didn’t want to be somebody like, ‘Oh, I can’t do this.’ But me, personally, from the outside looking in, I was so angry. I was like, ‘No, she cannot do this anymore.’ I would personally not allow her to get back in the ring to get hurt again.”

Jax complained to WWE management and later confirmed in an interview with talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy that she was referring to Rousey.

WWE kept Bliss on television by using her in a different role as an unofficial General Manager. Meanwhile Jax revived her storyline with Rousey in late 2018, after suggesting to WWE officials that she should face The Baddest Woman on the Planet instead.
