5 WWE stars who were suspended for interesting reasons

Over the years, there have been many WWE suspensions, but many of these have come since the Wellness Policy was unveiled back in 2006. Over the past 14 years, many current and former WWE talents have been suspended for violating the company's Wellness Policy with the company handing out a 30-day suspension for first violations.

A second violation, which has only been seen by Randy Orton, Adam Rose, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy, and former Divas Champion Paige, is a 60-day suspension, whilst a third is where WWE pushes the star into a rehab center and the star in question will be released from their contract.

Titus O'Neil is a former Tag Team Champion but even though he isn't used very often on WWE TV, he is a fantastic ambassador for the company outside of the ring.

News of O'Neil's suspension leaked back in 2016 after he was sent home from the SmackDown tapings for "unprofessional conduct" when he grabbed Vince McMahon as the WWE Chairman made his way up the ramp following Daniel Bryan's retirement speech.

O'Neil was suspended for 60 days following the incident where he later explained to Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory, that he was trying to allow Stephanie to leave the arena first.

"I still don't understand it. I put my hand out and said, 'Ladies first.' So I don't know what the wrong time is to say, 'Ladies first' or the right time. It's water under the bridge. It happened and I took ownership of it regardless if I was right, wrong, or indifferent, or if the situation could have been handled differently. It happened. I served my suspension and it's over with. It goes back to the fact that I know who I am and I know what I did and I know why I did it and God has rewarded me tenfold."

#4. Jerry Lawler

Jerry Lawler has become a WWE Legend throughout his career behind the commentary desk. The King is also a former in-ring talent and someone who is most recognizable alongside Jim Ross behind the announce desk.

Following Ross' departure, Lawler continued to provide color commentary until he was arrested on Domestic Violence charges back in 2016 and the company had no choice but to suspend the WWE Hall of Famer.

WWE has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to domestic violence and even though in this case it was just a fight between Lawler and his much younger girlfriend, WWE had to suspend the star.

His suspension cost him his place at the commentary desk, but merely two weeks later, the company revealed that the charges had been dropped on Lawler and his girlfriend Lauryn McBride and that his suspension had been lifted.

Lawler was then placed on pre-shows before being taken off WWE TV altogether, the star returned to a full-time commentary role back in 2019 on RAW, but was replaced by Samoa Joe earlier this year.

Rich Swann originally debuted in WWE as part of the NXT brand, but many fans remember this as part of the original Cruiserweight Classic back in 2016. Swann made it all the way through to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by eventual winner TJ Perkins.

The star then became part of WWE's Cruiserweight Division on Monday Night RAW and even lifted the Championship when he was able to defeat Brian Kendrick on the premiere episode of 205 Live.

Swann lost the Championship at the beginning of 2017 and was then scheduled to face Drew Gulak in a match to determine the new number 1 contender, to Neville's Championship but this match was canceled after Swann was suspended by WWE.

In December 2017, Swann was arrested on charges of battery and kidnapping/false imprisonment. The victim was identified as his wife and the couple had reportedly gotten into an argument following her performance at a show that night.

In January 2018, the case was dismissed due to "insufficient evidence" but merely weeks later on February 15th Swann and WWE mutually came to an agreement to terminate his contract.

Adam Rose was once one of WWE's most exciting stars as the leader of The Rosebuds. during his time in NXT the likes of Becky Lynch, Braun Strowman, and Nikki Cross all got their start as Rosebuds for Adam Rose.

Things were going well for the leader of The Exotic Express until 2015 when Rose's character in WWE changed and he was no longer seen as a party animal. Rose went through a number of character changes throughout 2015 and at one point was even part of The Social Outcasts alongside Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, and Heath Slater.

This storyline was seemingly cut short when Rose was suspended for 60 days for his second violation of WWE's wellness policy. Rose declared his innocence on Social Media and even shared a doctor's note, but three weeks later when Rose was arrested for domestic violence and tampering with a witness, WWE suspended him indefinitely.

Two weeks later, Rose requested his release from WWE and was granted it, and the following month the domestic violence case was dropped since Rose proved that he was getting professional help.

One of the most unusual suspensions in WWE history came back in 2012. According to a report by CBC, at a WWE Live Event in Sao Paulo, Brazil in May, Chris Jericho picked up a Brazilian Flag that had made its way to the ring, crumpled it up before throwing it to the ground, standing on it and then kicking it.

As a heel, this would have come across as a way to gain cheap heat to many WWE fans, but Brazilian authorities saw this differently. The police then stopped the bout and gave the former WWE Champion the chance to apologize to those in attendance or face incarceration.

WWE then had to be seen to act following the incident and were forced to suspend Jericho for 30 days. The company announced the following on their official website.

"Chris Jericho has been suspended for 30 days due to the irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at WWE live event in Sao Paulo on May 24," the wrestling organization said on its website Friday.
