5 WWE Superstars who were accused of being unsafe in the ring

Pro wrestling is a scripted sport that consists of pre-determined fights and storylines that take place over a given period of time, leading to these matches. WWE Superstars plan their matches in advance to make sure that they present a believable and exciting bout in front of the fans in attendance, and the millions watching at home.

Even though WWE Superstars plan their moves beforehand, there are times when things go awry in the ring and a wrestler ends up botching a particular spot, or many. On some occasions, a wrestler makes multiple mistakes or works incredibly stiff, which eventually leads to others labeling them 'unsafe' and 'dangerous' in the ring. In this list, we will take a look at five WWE Superstars who were accused of being unsafe in the ring.

#5 Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar is one of the most successful Superstars to ever step foot in a WWE ring. He has had an incredible career over his two stints in WWE and has won several major titles in the company. Lesnar is a legit beast who has experience in MMA and was a big star in UFC, back in the day. Although Lesnar isn't someone who was exactly called out by many for being unsafe in the ring, WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan did accuse him of being unsafe in an interview.

Working with Brock Lesnar is dangerous anyway because Brock doesn't seem to care about his partner. It's easy to hurt people though. If I give you my body, then you gotta take care of me. Some guys don't give a darn and Brock doesn't give a darn, he'll just throw people around.

Brock Lesnar is one of the most controversial figures in all of WWE

Lesnar is certainly one of the most controversial Superstars in WWE history. His beatdown of Randy Orton at SummerSlam 2016 led Chris Jericho to believe that Lesnar was taking liberties with him, when it was all planned beforehand, in reality. Lesnar also hit Braun Strowman with a legit punch during a match when The Monster Among Men got too stiff with him.

#4 Seth Rollins

Back when John Cena was a mainstay in WWE, he got into a feud with Seth Rollins. At one point during the feud, Rollins ended up breaking Cena's nose following a misplaced kick on the 16-time World Champion. Rollins received tons of flak from fans for the spot, and WWE Hall of Famer Bret 'The Hitman' Hart was among the ones who weren't happy with him.

"He [Rollins] knees him the face so hard, and so recklessly, and so dangerously. He could easily kill somebody with a knee like that to the face. It's a testimony to John Cena. A, he finished the match and B, that he didn't get a shotgun and shoot Seth Rollins when he came through the curtain."

This wasn't the only time Seth Rollins received criticism for being unsafe in the ring. A spot during the Universal title match between him and Finn Balor at SummerSlam 2016 was responsible for the latter getting injured and being forced to vacate his title. WWE Hall of Famer Sting was injured during his WWE World Heavyweight title match against Rollins at Night of Champions 2015, following which his career came to an end.

#3 The Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior will go down in history as being one of the most controversial WWE Superstars of all time. He had more enemies than friends in the locker room, if 'The Self Destruction Of The Ultimate Warrior' is to be believed. Legendary WWE manager Bobby Heenan wasn't a fan of The Ultimate Warrior in the least and dubbed him as being unsafe in the ring. Heenan stated that Warrior clotheslined him deliberately, even after he had told him that he had a bad neck.

The Ultimate Warrior had issues with several WWE Superstars

WWE Hall of Famer Randy Savage apparently hated working house shows with The Ultimate Warrior on a regular basis, due to the latter's stiffness in the ring. The Ultimate Warrior and WWE were at odds for a long time following the release of the above-mentioned DVD, but the two parties later made up and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014. Warrior tragically passed away soon after his Hall of Fame induction. He was certainly one of the most charismatic Superstars in all of WWE, but his career was marred with accusations of being a stiff worker and someone who was incredibly hard to work with in a backstage capacity.

#2 Sasha Banks

In late 2017, WWE Superstar Paige suffered a legit injury after receiving a kick from Sasha Banks, at a house show. The injury would result in Paige being forced to retire months later. As expected, Sasha Banks received tons of backlash following the incident, with fans bashing her on social media for ending Paige's career due to her recklessness in the ring. The hate reached such a point that Paige herself had to publicly come out in Sasha's defense and explain that it wasn't her fault.

Paige has stated in the past that her WWE retirement wasn't Banks' fault

Paige further explained that she called the move and told Banks to do it, to which the latter obliged. Last year, WWE presented a Chronicle titled 'The Boss', in which Banks opened up about receiving severe backlash for what happened on that fateful night. Banks could be seen shedding tears over what she went through around that time. It's been three years since that incident, and it seems highly unlikely that Paige will ever come back to the ring as an active Superstar. Banks is currently on SmackDown and is the Blue brand's Women's Champion.

#1 John Cena

John Cena was one of the most polarizing figures in WWE, back when he was wrestling on a regular basis. Over the years, fans have grown to love him and respect him for his immense contributions to the business. Cena's peers in the company, as well as most of WWE's former Superstars, have nothing but respect for him. There are a few guys though, who aren't big fans of Cena. Former Nexus member Michael Tarver is one of them.

A long time ago, Tarver accused Cena of injuring him and laughing about the same backstage. Later, he opened up on his comments and accused Cena of being reckless in the ring.

"I wasn't accusing him of doing it on purpose, he was being reckless and took liberties, but he didn't pick up a chair to fracture my arm. It happened because he wasn't careful. Outside of that, it was business, we weren't great friends."

John Cena's Team WWE triumphed over Nexus at SummerSlam 2010

John Cena and The Nexus feuded on WWE TV, back in 2010. Tarver was one of many Nexus members who didn't do much of note in WWE and was later released. Cena went on to become one of the all-time greats and is a sure-fire future Hall of Famer.
