5 WWE Superstars set to appear on The Big Show Show on Netflix

Netflix seems to be taking a lot of interest in the wrestling business. And after the success of GLOW, the company partnered with WWE to take out the trailer for Main Event, a movie about a boy who dreams of becoming a WWE Superstar.

Paul Wight, aka Big Show, plays a fictional character of himself during the show and is the center of attention. However, after he retires from WWE, he switches his focus on his family and decides to invest his life into being the perfect dad.

After his teenage daughter comes to live with him, his wife and two other daughters, he quickly becomes outnumbered and outsmarted.

Even though they aren’t his family in real-life, his on-screen family becomes a bit too much for the big guy who is used to being a world-famous wrestler and someone who gets all the attention.

Big Show needs to adjust to life post-retirement while ensuring that he raises his kids the way all the other kids are being raised.

We all know that Show is a gentle giant, and he manages to pull off the comic character extremely well in the show.

He played a heel when he came out after Drew McIntyre’s victory over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania and challenged The Scottish Psychopath for a WWE Championship match, he did it all to promote his new show.

Instinct Culture by Denise Salcedo interviewed Big Show, and he revealed the following:

“To be honest I am very humbled, and super grateful. This is an opportunity that I have driven the powers that be at WWE crazy for years. Well over 10 years I have been driving Vince nuts about – ‘I need a family comedy, I can do this, I am funny, it shows my best characteristic points that I don’t ever get to show in my character on WWE TV but my personality can come through more and if we can get a vehicle like that, it can do well.’ And then the partnership came up with Netflix and Vince was like ‘I’ve got the perfect guy.’… I was dumbfounded because I had about a ten-minute phone call with Vince and he’s a busy dude and he and I have a great relationship and a lot gets said with very few words. And, ‘I’ve got this opportunity for you, this is the opportunity you’ve been looking for and I know you won’t let me down. Goodluck.’ And that was that.”

#4 Rikishi

Rikishi getting a good look at the script

We’ve seen Rikishi and Big Show tear it down in the ring several times, and whenever the two met, there was no clear winner until the very end.

Many would remember the time after WrestleMania 2000 when Big Show turned babyface again and decided to become a comical character. He went as far as to lampoon Rikishi and become Showkishi in the process. The World’s Largest Athlete dressed up as Jimmy and Jey Uso’s father and mimic him inside the ring with Rikishi right beside him.

Rikishi is known to be one of the Big Show’s closest friends behind the scenes, and the biggest Superstar of WWE decided to call him in during filming to have him play a nice little cameo.

This isn’t the first time that Netflix has pulled Rikishi in for a cameo for one of its ventures. Along with David Otunga, he also appeared in the Netflix original film, Sandy Wexler. The film stars Adam Sandler, Jennifer Hudson, Kevin James, Terry Crews, and others.

The Superstar appears during the sixth episode called ‘The Big Party’ where he is seen advising Big Show on his wedding anniversary.

#3 Mark Henry

The guys decide to step in when they see that Show's anniversary doesn't go the way he'd planned it to

The World’s Strongest Man is one Superstar who could always come out and match the size and strength of The World’s Largest Athlete. Fans can never forget the epic rivalries between Show and Mark Henry as the two even went as far as to break the ring in 2011.

The two men have had a feud for the World Heavyweight Championship, and at TLC 2011, Big Show finally defeated Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Chairs Match.

Behind the scenes, Show and Henry are the best of friends and both Superstars have always praised each other for their work inside and outside the ring.

Henry currently works as a backstage mentor for new talent and managed to bag a role in The Big Show Show as Show’s best friend.

During the sixth episode called ‘The Big Party’, Henry is part of the wrestling cruise on which Show decides to take his wife for their wedding anniversary.

Henry criticizes Show’s decision to do so and gives him advice on how he could have done much better by taking her to several other places.

While Henry has a short role, we can expect him to show up in the second season of the show as he is, by far, Show’s biggest and closest friend.

#2 Mick Foley

Mick Foley has forever been one of WWE’s best wrestlers, thanks to his work in the ring and several of his gimmicks that have been top-notch.

Foley, just like the other Superstars on the list, is no stranger to the Big Show as both men worked side by side in the company. In 1999, Foley was part of a ladder match for the WWF Championship against The Rock who won the title with help from Big Show.

Foley and Show then had a match at WrestleMania the same year which was won by Foley as Mankind. Foley again won at Backlash a month later in a violent and brutal Boiler Room Brawl, where the objective of the match was to escape the boiler room.

Behind the scenes, Foley is one of WWE’s biggest off-screen Superstars too who has written several books, especially for kids and starred in several movies and television shows.

Foley appears as another friend of the Big Show on the wrestling cruise in ‘The Big Party’ episode where he too gives wedding anniversary advice to the big guy along with Mark Herny and Rikishi.

With four huge former WWE Superstars on screen together, die-hard wrestling fans are going to be in for a treat when they watch the sitcom!

In September 2019, The Big Show appeared on ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s podcast where he revealed that The Big Show Show was finally under production and three episodes had already been shot for the show that would premiere somewhere around the time of WrestleMania 36.

The timing was spot-on as the show premiered on the second night of WrestleMania 36, after which Show took on Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Big Show and Stone Cold were never strangers to each other in the ring and appeared in several rivalries, either helping other Superstars or competing against one another.

During an interview with Denise Salcedo, Big Show revealed that he had a verbal agreement with Stone Cold who is set to appear in the second season of the show.

Show went on to say:

“So, season two I’ll be calling in a lot of favors to bring some of the guys in. I’ve got a verbal commitment out of Stone Cold, Jason{Berger} and I already have an episode for that but we’re keeping it on the d-low.”

With Stone Cold confirmed to have a guest role on the sitcom, we’re convinced that the second season of the show will be even bigger than the first one!
