5 WWE Superstars who were once Tag Team Champions with current AEW stars

All Elite Wrestling came into being last year when it presented its first show, Double Or Nothing, in May. The promotion seems to be doing well for itself, and many fans have deemed it as being a legit alternative to WWE. Ever since last September, WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite have engaged in a rating war on Wednesday nights.

Back in 2010, Drew McIntyre was still a fairly new talent and was attempting to establish himself as a top heel on the Blue brand. He engaged in a rivalry with Matt Hardy and Christian at the time. Cody, who was donning the 'Dashing' gimmick at the time, was having issues with the babyface duo as well. This led to McIntyre and Cody forming an alliance.

It goes without saying that The Hardy Boyz are one of the greatest tag teams to ever step foot inside the squared circle. Matt and Jeff Hardy made their way to WWE in the late 90s and became a popular duo soon after.

Their high-flying skills and the ability to put on fast-paced matches made them a crucial addition to the WWE roster at the time. During their stint in WWE, The Hardy Boyz won the Tag Team titles on nine occasions.

The duo also engaged in a rivalry back in early 2009, which culminated in an Extreme Rules match at WrestleMania 25, with Matt coming out victorious. After being away from WWE for years on end, The Hardy Boyz made their long-awaited return to the company at WrestleMania 33 in 2017, in one of the biggest surprises in the show's history.

Currently, Jeff is a part of WWE SmackDown. Matt signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling earlier this year and is currently a top star in the promotion. He was a part of The Elite that defeated The Inner Circle in a Stadium Stampede match at AEW Double or Nothing 2020.

Both Seth Rollins and Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose) achieved fame early on in their WWE main roster run while being a part of The Shield. By the time 2018 was coming to an end, tensions began forming among The Shield members.

On an episode of RAW, Jon Moxley walked away from his friends after the trio lost a match to Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre. Soon after, Roman Reigns went on a hiatus to battle leukemia. On the same night, Rollins and Ambrose defeated McIntyre and Ziggler to become the RAW Tag Team titles. Ambrose had other plans though, and he turned on Rollins following the victory.

Rollins soon lost a Handicap match to AOP, thus losing the belts. Ambrose went on to leave WWE and signed a contract with AEW. He appeared at the promotion's first event, Double Or Nothing, in May 2019. Currently, Rollins is one of the biggest heels in WWE. Ambrose, on the other hand, is doing quite well for himself in AEW and is currently holding the coveted AEW World title.

Bray Wyatt made his way to WWE's main roster on the road to SummerSlam 2013, with Luke Harper and Erick Rowan by his side. He defeated Kane in his first match at SummerSlam. Wyatt won the WWE title on the road to WrestleMania 33 but lost it to Randy Orton at The Show of Shows.

During Orton's stint with The Wyatt Family, he and Bray Wyatt won the Tag Team titles at TLC 2016, with help from Luke Harper. Mere days later, it was announced that Harper had been sanctioned as the Tag Team Champion as well. This made him eligible to compete in Tag Team title matches and defend the belt under "Freebird Rules".

Orton and Harper later lost the belts to American Alpha in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match on an episode of WWE SmackDown. While both Orton and Wyatt are currently two of the top Superstars on the WWE roster, Harper is competing in AEW and has donned the moniker of Brodie Lee. He made his debut back in March, and was revealed as the leader of The Dark Order.

In 2009, Edge and Chris Jericho were both on the WWE SmackDown roster. At The Bash 2009, Jericho and Edge competed in a Triple Threat match which was contested for the Unified Tag Team titles. The heelish duo defeated The Colons and The Legacy to win the belts. During a live event, Edge suffered a torn Achilles Tendon while competing against Jeff Hardy. He took a hiatus to recover from his injury, while Jericho replaced Edge with Big Show.

Edge came back at the 2010 Royal Rumble and ended up winning the free-for-all. He retired a year later, courtesy his neck injury. Edge made a miraculous return at the 2020 Royal Rumble PPV and later engaged in a fierce rivalry with Randy Orton.

He suffered an injury during his match with Orton at WWE Backlash 2020 and will be out of action for 4-8 months. Jericho signed a contract with AEW last year and went on to become the promotion's first World Champion. He is currently the top heel in AEW and is the leader of The Inner Circle.
