6 things WWE subtly told us on SmackDown: Super ShowDown main event result spoiled, Massive WrestleMania match confirmed?

Welcome to this week's edition of things WWE subtly told us on SmackDown! It was a good episode this week in what was ultimately the go-home show to WWE SuperShowDown 2020.

On the SmackDown side of things, it's all wrapped up and there haven't been too many matches advertised for the Saudi Arabia PPV - perhaps due to Elimination Chamber being right around the corner after that.

Given that last week was a relatively weaker episode, we're happy that the blue brand managed to bounce back this week. It's amazing what can be done when Roman Reigns and King Corbin feuding for the hundredth month in a row isn't the main focus of the show.

Either way, let's look at some of the things WWE subtly hinted on SmackDown:

#6 The confirmation of a major WrestleMania match?

A solid bout

Naomi and Carmella went one-on-one to determine Bayley's SmackDown Women's Championship opponent at WWE Super ShowDown. It was the right match between the right contenders with the right winner - Naomi.

Naomi has gained quite a bit of momentum upon her return and she most certainly deserves it, especially given the tragic six months she had when she was away from WWE last year. Naomi had a fun TV match against Carmella and beat her after Bayley was sent away from ringside.

So what does this mean? Possibly that Naomi won't be in the SmackDown Women's Championship match at WrestleMania 36 as rumored. While some may be relieved, she isn't undeserving. However, at this point, Naomi is the right choice and she pointed out that she's never lost to Bayley before.

We all know how it is - when these kinds of statements are made, it confirms that they're losing. We're excited to see Sasha Banks enter the mix as WrestleMania edges closer and closer.

#5 That first-time confrontation

This was exciting yet slightly underwhelming. When Goldberg was promoted and advertised a few weeks ago for SmackDown, many paid money expecting to see him there. Instead, they got his appearance over satellite and that led to massive disappointment.

Even still, the fact that he's facing 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt at WWE Super ShowDown for the Universal Championship is good enough. For one, he's facing a full-time superstar and not an old-timer that could lead to an embarrassing match as he had with The Undertaker last year at Super ShowDown.

Moreover, Goldberg isn't scheduled for WrestleMania 36, which possibly spoils the fact that Bray Wyatt is going to win at Super ShowDown. Not that it's any real surprise as there have been rumors that Goldberg is more than happy to put over Wyatt.

In the SmackDown segment, Goldberg and Wyatt had a face-to-face confrontation for the first time that ended with the legend hitting a spear on The Fiend before the Champion vanished.

Goldberg stood tall. While we wish the segment was a bit longer, it did enough to hype their match for Super ShowDown.

#4 It all comes full circle in the Symphony of Destruction

A pleasant fall?

It was just shy of two years ago when we saw the first and until this past SmackDown - the only "Symphony of Destruction" match in WWE. The last time it happened was on March 5th, 2018, and it featured Braun Strowman going up against Elias.

Elias was a heel at the time, but he had a lot of momentum behind him. The momentum that Strowman had, however, was on another level. He was arguably the hottest star in WWE at the time - full-time or part-time and just like Dean Ambrose two years before him,

Unfortunately, they didn't capitalize on that, but we all know the story of how the Roman Reigns mega push ended up affecting other superstars. Either way, the Symphony of Destruction match was fun to watch, with Corey Graves' entire call of the match being filled with Megadeth references.

It's all come full circle two years later, with the two teaming up to take on Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. It was a fun-filled (and confusing) match that ended in favor of the babyfaces.

#3 The Otis-Mandy story

More heartbreak in the romance storyline between Otis and Mandy Rose
Ad

This one has been a heartbreaker these past two weeks. Otis got a date with Mandy Rose on Valentine's Day but he ended up getting upstaged by Dolph Ziggler. Tucker talked to Rose backstage telling her that she broke Otis' heart, but she seemed clueless about the "text" that was sent to Otis.

As it turns out, it was a message Ziggler had sent somehow, but Mandy Rose doesn't know that yet. Her expression seemed to suggest that there's been a misunderstanding, but her segment of the night ended with her hitching a ride with Dolph Ziggler.

Otis looked on from behind, heartbroken again. It's good that WWE decided not to payoff the story immediately and drag it on for a bit. How long it's going to go, we can't be too sure, but hopefully, we get a conclusion in the coming weeks.

Either way, this is going to help get Otis over as a babyface and hopefully, WWE learned from the Rusev-Lana-Bobby Lashley storyline,

#2 New Day-Usos to feud again?

Run it back?
Ad

The New Day and The Usos have been respectful to each other for over two years now. It was the summer (and a few months after) of 2017 when the two had a feud that many instantly realized was an all-time classic in the tag team division.

It was a story of two top teams who were so even that they would beat each other on every given turn. It was similar to the Sasha Banks-Charlotte Flair feud in 2016 where every match they had, the RAW Women's Championship change hands.

In the opening segment of SmackDown, the two exchanged pleasantries before taking subtle shots at each other, possibly hinting a renewal of their feud down the line. The two teams have a great history together and there's no doubt that they could have a great match at any stage.

However, given WWE's need to put everyone on the WrestleMania card, we fully expect the SmackDown Tag Team title match at the grandest stage of them all to be a multi-team match as usual.

#1 What's brewing for Daniel Bryan?

Daniel Bryan
Ad

"The dream rematch" happened on SmackDown as Heath Slater took on Daniel Bryan again. The last time they faced off, Bryan squashed Slater, but this week, he had a critic at ringside - Drew Gulak.

Gulak confronted Daniel Bryan backstage, telling him that he was slipping up and he had a Power Point presentation to show him everything that he's been doing wrong. Bryan, of course, ended up squashing Slater, but only after he had a brief interaction with his wife Brie Bella and Sister-in-law Nikki Bella - both of whom are now confirmed to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2020.

We have to congratulate the twins on a well-deserved induction. However, there seems to be no indication as to what's in store for Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36. At this point, the only logical answer we can think of is Sheamus - who is beginning to regain some momentum despite only facing Shorty G and Apollo Crews.

Shorty G and Apollo Crews had a bit of dissent themselves, with Crews refusing to listen to Gable's pep talk.

What makes Sting special? His first AEW opponent opens up RIGHT HERE.
