Goldberg lost the Universal Championship to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania

6 WWE opponents for Goldberg after his crushing loss to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36

It was a match that was made at the last minute but not one that too many people would have a problem with. When Roman Reigns had to bow out of WrestleMania 36 owing to health concerns, Braun Strowman stepped in and it became a clash of two powerhouses.

And the match played out in exactly the manner that it should have, with both men delivering powerful finishers, one after the other. This was until The Monster Among Men proved his dominance over the icon.

So, now that Goldberg has effectively bowed out of WWE for the time being, who does he take on when he chooses to make his return to the squared circle yet again? The answer will lie across the following six slides.

Please name your picks as well in the comments, Who do you think Goldberg's next opponent should be?

Also, do you think Goldberg should retire now that he has nothing left to prove?

#6 Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns was in a long feud with King Corbin that concluded with a match in Saudi Arabia after which he was on the fast track to battling Goldberg in a battle for the ages. That never actually happened though. Well, the fact of the matter is that it can always happen at a later date if/when the world goes back to normal once again. And it will remain as big a draw then as it was when we were heading into WrestleMania.

This is certainly one of those 'super showdowns' that can happen in Saudi Arabia and could be billed as a match that never happened at WrestleMania. Or it could even take place at a stage like SummerSlam or whenever Goldberg chooses to return to the company once again. It also depends on how quickly things normalize once again.

#5 Keith Lee

There are only a handful of human beings that size up against Goldberg. Even though Goldberg may be well past his prime, he is still a monster of a man and can make even a fully grown man seem like a child in his presence.

But Keith Lee is someone who has proved time and again that he is the man to watch out for in the main event scene based on just how athletically he moves in the ring for a man his size. Plus he has a lot of charisma as well and he should fare just as well on RAW and/or SmackDown as he has been doing in NXT thus far.

Remember the showing he had at Survivor Series which proved that he can not just hang but thrive against the bigwigs of the company? Maybe this momentum carries him through the WWE roster as he takes on one opponent after the other and ultimately falls to someone like Goldberg after a titanic match that sends his career to the next level.

#4 The Fiend

If you look at everything that Bray Wyatt is doing as The Fiend, it is an attempt to right the wrongs of the past, be it in Daniel Bryan's case or even with John Cena. The sole exception is Goldberg, a man he took on for the first time in Saudi Arabia and came up short against, which means that there is a readymade feud awaiting the two men.

And this time, The Fiend could be prepared for Goldberg and could use mind games to his advantage to defeat the iconic WCW Superstar. The Fiend has one of the safest finishers in WWE. And, because Goldberg is not exactly Daniel Bryan in the ring, he too can become a victim of the move with ease and subsequently pass out.

Speaking of which, The Firefly Fun House match could become the site of a match between Goldberg and The Fiend based on how it plays out on Night 2. Bray Wyatt and his creative genius could come into play as Goldberg has to overcome a series of challenges to get to Bray Wyatt for his match.

#3 Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle has been very vocal about wanting to face Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, even taking shots at the former on Twitter. You can check out his chat with Sportskeeda's resident interviewer Gary Cassidy and check out what he has to say about the same, by clicking on the link above.

Matt Riddle will not remain in NXT forever because he's a wealth of talent and very soon indeed, RAW and/or SmackDown will have a place for him, welcoming him with open arms. And when he comes to either brand, he could start taking shots at Goldberg, to such an extent that the legend has no other alternative but to show up.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the outcome of the match is something that the 'internet' fans will really be into considering his position in the card and the legacy and the draw of Goldberg, it will be a squash match where the veteran spears and jackhammers Riddle with the utmost ease.

Goldberg could use this match to regain his heat. And then he could go after bigger fish in WWE.

#2 Drew McIntyre

I am writing this article before WrestleMania 36 moves into its second night, and so I do not yet know whether Drew McIntyre will emerge as the next WWE Champion or not. But whether or not he comes out with the prize, I think that a feud between him and Goldberg could be very compelling.

And this is because there are only a handful of people that can hang with Brock Lesnar, and McIntyre has proved that he is one such individual.

The only issue with this feud is that with the kind of momentum that Drew McIntyre has on his side, he will be the clear babyface going into the contest. Goldberg is someone who receives polarizing reactions wherever he goes. And, the crowd will be against him in this contest. But I genuinely believe that this is one of those matches, where it is impossible to predict who will win and who will fall.

The WWE Championship picture could definitely be elevated with this particular feud.

#1 Braun Strowman

There are very few people on the planet who can claim to have defeated Goldberg clean in the middle of the ring and Braun Strowman is one of those men. I mean even Kevin Nash, who broke Goldberg's streak originally did not do so without help. This really puts Braun Strowman in rarified air.

Goldberg can return when the time is right to say that he can't get the loss that he suffered at WrestleMania out of his mind. And the two behemoths can clash at a pay-per-view like SummerSlam or even in one of the Saudi Arabia specials.

There's a readymade story waiting for the two men, and when they clash in the middle of the ring, it will be impossible to predict the outcome for certain. WWE may want to tell a story where both men pick up one win each and then compete at WrestleMania in a rubber match.

And maybe Braun Strowman can go on to win the rubber match and establish his dominance over the icon. It would be a fitting end to the feud.
