8 Times the women of WWE have made history in 2019 

The Women's Evolution was in full swing this year as the company continued to push forward with the women of both the main roster and NXT.

It's been a year of history-making for the women of WWE and it's included the return of WWE legend Trish Stratus, as well as the promotion of several interesting NXT stars. The past 12 months will be seen as the Year of Women in WWE, especially given the number of times the company has allowed females to dictate the course of the company's history.

Following 2018's first-ever Women's Royal Rumble and the first-ever all-women's pay-per-view, this year the company needed to step up their game and given the fact that several history-making moments were made, it's safe to say that WWE has delivered.

#8. First-ever Women's Tag Team Champions

WWE crowned the first-ever Women's Tag Team Champions at Elimination Chamber earlier this year when they allowed several teams to compete inside the first-ever Women's Tag Team Elimination Chamber match.

The likes of The IIconics, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, Carmella and Naomi, The Riott Squad, Nia Jax and Tamina, as well as Sasha Banks and Bayley all stepped inside Satan's Structure in order to compete for the Women's Tag Team Championships for the very first time.

After how much Sasha Banks and Bayley had pushed to make these titles a reality, it didn't come as much of a shock that they were able to walk out of Elimination Chamber victorious. They went on to make history once again at WrestleMania when they defended the titles for the first time, but were bested by The IIconics. Asuka and Kairi Sane are the current Women's Tag Team Champions.

#7. First-ever Women's WrestleMania main event

After years of pushing, the women of WWE finally reached the pinnacle of the Women's Evolution this year when they were able to main event WrestleMania. The addition of Ronda Rousey to the Women's Division was enough to push the women into the spotlight. Following Becky Lynch's Royal Rumble victory, she earned the opportunity to wrestle the woman she should have fought at Survivor Series the year before.

Charlotte was added to the match by Vince McMahon when it appeared that Lynch was unable to compete, but 'The Man' was later re-added and then made history once again when she walked out victorious in the Winner Takes All match between three of WWE's best female performers.

#6. First-ever Women's Grand Slam Champion

This year has been a great one for current SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley, after she kicked off 2019 with a Women's Tag Team Championship win alongside her best friend Sasha Banks. The duo then unsuccessfully defended the titles at WrestleMania, which led to Banks leaving the company for four months.

In her absence, Bayley was moved over to SmackDown and won the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match, where she then cashed-in on Charlotte to become the first-ever Grand Slam Champion. Bayley is currently the only woman on the main roster to have won every championship currently available to women with the exception of the NXT UK Women's Championship currently held by Kay Lee Ray.

#5. First-ever Women's War Games match

The women of NXT were able to get in on the history-making action this year since they were given the opportunity to take part in their own War Games match last month. Team Rhea Ripley which originally consisted of Mia Yim, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox and their captain took on Team Shayna Baszler which consisted of Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, and Kay Lee Ray.

Despite Yim being taken out of the match and replaced by Dakota Kai, who then turned heel on her long-time friend and Team Kick partner Tegan Nox, Team Ripley was still able to come out on top when Rhea Ripley pinned Shayna Baszler to set up a future NXT Women's Championship match.

#4. First-ever women's RAW vs SmackDown vs NXT match

This year's Survivor Series made history for several reasons, the most obvious of which was the fact that NXT was involved in all of the brand war matches for the first time.

One of the biggest matches of the night saw NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler defeat both SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley and RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch in the main event of the show.

This was the first time in the history of the three brand era that all three Champions had collided in a match to decide the very best champion among them.

#3. SmackDown's first-ever full-time female referee

This past week on Friday Night SmackDown, Jessika Carr made history when she refereed the match between Alexa Bliss and Mandy Rose, becoming the Blue Brand's first ever full-time female referee. This is the first match that the former NXT official has overlooked since her move over from the developmental brand a few weeks ago.

Carr originally made history when she debuted as WWE's first full-time female wrestler at the Mae Young Classic back in 2017, but has since been promoted to the main roster and has now made history once again this year.

Carr was a well-liked member of the NXT brand for more than a year and was forced to say goodbye to the brand following the main event between Tommaso Ciampa and Finn Balor two weeks ago on NXT.

#2. First-ever women's double Champion

Becky Lynch has had a fantastic 2019 as 'The Man,' since she has been able to break down every glass ceiling in WWE. In recent months, Lynch has been able to win the second-annual Women's Royal Rumble, to then go on to compete in the first-ever women's WrestleMania main event where she came out victorious as the first-ever women's dual champion.

Becky picked up both the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships at WrestleMania when she pinned Ronda Rousey, but later lost the SmackDown title back to Charlotte Flair at Money in the Bank. Flair then quickly lost the title to Bayley when she cashed in the 2019 women's Money in the Bank contract.

#1. First-ever women's match in Saudi Arabia

Following WWE's first-ever trip to Saudi Arabia last year, many fans were disappointed that the women of WWE were not allowed to take part. Vince McMahon made it his mission to push women's wrestling into the country and even though he was unable to make the match between Natalya and Alexa Bliss happen back in June at Super ShowDown, history was made at Crown Jewel in October.

It came as a huge shock to many fans when Lacey Evans vs Natalya was announced for the show and they were then able to perform in front of the country for the first time. Nattie and Evans were forced to change up their usual attire, but put on a near-perfect match to end what had been a lengthy feud between the two in the months heading into the show.

Following the match, Evans seemingly turned face when she embraced Natalya following her victory. Both women were overcome with emotion when they realized that their names will now be written in history and the record books for the rest of their lives.
