9 WWE Superstars and personnel spotted in 'The Main Event' trailer - Netflix’s latest film

WWE has ventured into many directions and many partnerships over the years to entertain its fans, and this year we are going to get something different in the form of a Netflix film from the largest sports entertainment company.

The Main Event, as the film is called, follows the dreams of a bullied 11-year-old Leo Thompson who wants to become a wrestler.

We see Leo wearing a Kofi Kingston shirt while drawing Superstars in his notebook but the bullies don’t take his dreams seriously. One day, while running away and hiding from the bullies, Leo discovers a magical wrestling mask that grants him superpowers.

A simple Google search allows him to get all the information he needs regarding the mask, and we watch the kid get almost all the powers out “friendly neighborhood Superhero” possesses.

Leo then enters a WWE competition to become the next WWE Superstar under the ring name Kid Chaos, but there he has to face some major competition in the form of some much older, bigger, and more talented athletes.

Directed by Jay Karas, best known for directing the sitcom Parks and Recreation, the film seems to have a lot of familiar faces for wrestling fans.

#9-8 Corey Graves & Renee Young

The scenes of the wrestling part of the film are set in an NXT brand environment, and there we see former NXT Superstar and current commentator Corey Graves offering his expert views on what’s going on in the ring.

Graves has been an excellent color commentator on both NXT and the main roster, and it’s fitting to see the younger member of the commentary team appear in the film as it seems to be targeting a younger crowd.

Similarly, we see the fan-favorite Renee young with Graves who also looks to be a commentator in the film. The two are great on television, and we have no doubts that they’d have done justice to their roles in this one.

#7 Otis

Otis has become a fan-favorite in no time since first appearing on SmackDown after having a great time in NXT with his partner Tucker as part of Heavy Machinery.

While both men are inseparable in the ring, it seems as though only Otis found his way into The Main Event where he seems to be one of the many wrestlers who’ve walked in for a chance to become the next WWE Superstar.

In the trailer, we see a hilarious encounter between Leo and Otis as the two men are set to compete in the ring. Leo asks Otis why he is so sweaty as the match had just begun, taking a shot at the big man who is always seen to be extremely greasy in the ring.

Otis gives a fitting reply, telling the kid not to ask questions he doesn’t want answers to.

#6 Mia Yim

Every tough competition needs tough female competitors, and there is no one tougher in WWE than NXT’s own Mia Yim. The Head Baddie is not only making waves on NXT, but she is ready to do the same in this film where were see here a few times during the trailer.

Yim seems to be one of the top competitors in the competition, and we see her alongside several other Superstars and also perform in the ring against a male competitor.

The HBIC is an incredible wrestler and athlete, and we hope that her performance in the film will help her garner even more fans and become a top talent on NXT and beyond.

#5 Keith Lee

Who can miss the largest athlete in this trailer?

Current NXT North American Champion Keith Lee is among the cast and seems to have a much bigger role than several other stars as he is frequently shown during the trailer. Not only do we see Lee advising other Superstars in the ring, but we see him battle Kid Chaos himself which could end up being something really interesting for the fans.

Putting Lee in the mix is a great decision as he was the Breakout Star for NXT in 2019, and has gained a lot of momentum and fans over the past few months. Not only will his inclusion in the film help him gain more fans, but it will also help the film get many more viewers too!

Rumored

Several different sources claim that John Cena and Bray Wyatt will also play a cameo role in the film which opens the door to a lot of possibilities.

Cena is the all-time greatest Superstar WWE has produced, while Wyatt’s current character is the strongest one the company has churned out in recent times.

While we aren’t sure whether the two big men will appear during the film or not, we can rest assured that even one’s appearance will boost the overall quality and rating of the film.

#4 Sheamus

We’ve seen him do everything in the ring, and the former WWE Champion appears in the film not only as a WWE Superstar but as a referee!

You read that right, Sheamus is shown in the trailer as a referee and it seems like all those social media photos of him in a referee’s shirt sparking confusion and speculation were from the time he was filming his parts for the film.

Sheamus is one of the biggest Superstars WWE has ever produced, and it’s great to see him as a part of the film, especially in this new role as a referee which is fitting for a veteran like himself.

During the trailer, we see Sheamus welcome the audience to ‘The Main Event’, which could mean that the Superstar will be in the cut only for the final match of the tournament.

Whatever the case may be, it will be really interesting to see how Sheamus does in front of the cameras, especially after his interesting performance in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and The Buddy Games.

#3 Kofi Kingston

“No, look, this guy is taking on that guy?”

We watch Kofi Kingston exclaim from the balcony as Otis and Kid Chaos prepare for their battle in the ring. WWE is used to giving fans David vs. Goliath stories, but an 11-year-old taking on a giant like Otis would concern every single one of us.

In the initial part of the trailer, we watch Leo wearing a Kofi Kingston t-shirt while he tries on the new magical mask that gives him Superstar powers.

Later on, during the tournament to crown the next WWE Superstar, Kofi seems to be one of the men who will either mentor the Superstars or will play the judge during the film which makes matters more interesting.

Kofi himself is a huge inspiration to many budding Superstars, while his faction is one of the most beloved factions for the younger WWE Universe.

With that in mind, it makes sense to have a living legend like him be a part of the film and help the viewership while allowing the fans to watch a good mix of new and old talent that competes in the company.

This could be Kofi’s first major role in any sort of film as he hasn’t really had many roles on the silver screen. Are we ready for a breakout performance?

#2 Babatunde Aiyegbusi

You may not have seen too much of Babatunde Aiyegbusi in WWE, but the Superstar is signed to the NXT brand where he has competed in a handful of matches.

The Polish Superstar was part of the Greatest Royal Rumble Match in Saudi Arabia where he entered the ring at Number 37 and was eliminated by Braun Strowman.

On May 10, 2019, Babatunde made his Evolve debut at Evolve 127, defeating Adrian Alanis.

While Babatunde may not have gotten too much television time in WWE before, this film seems to have him as a dominating force ready to rip through the competition in a bid to become the next WWE Superstar.

During the trailer, we see him as a threatening force named “Samson” who appears to be that unbeatable force in every other movie where the hero needs to battle the odds before he can face ‘The Boss’.

Corey Graves is the first one to reveal him to the fans, and we see him slam Mia Yim to the mat in what looks like a progression match. At the end of the tournament, he seems like man final competitor against Kid Chaos, and we could see him become the major obstacle Kid Chaos needs to overcome to live his dream. Will Kid Chaos succeed? We’ll just need to wait a little longer to find out!

#1 The Miz

The man who was born to grace television screens across the globe will once again play a major role in a big film.

Unlike most of the Superstars in this film, The Miz is no stranger to acting in films, and this will be one of the many big films he’s been a part of during his illustrious career.

The A-lister, who was previously first the host and then a judge on Tough Enough, started his acting career in 2001 when he became a cast member on MTV's The Real World: Back to New York.

The Miz looks to play a similar role in this film as he did during his time on Tough Enough, and we see him in the trailers announce the competition and then appear several times to introduce the talent and watch them perform.

The Miz is one of WWE’s biggest stars, and his presence will help the film do bigger business while giving him a chance to further push his acting career. His appearance will also help his WWE reality-TV show Miz & Mrs, and give the fans another side to the Miz outside the ring.
