It was an amazing main event at AEW Fyter Fest.

AEW Fyter Fest 2020: 5 Surprising Moments From Night Two

Fyter Fest 2020 was a series of very fun shows. Last week’s show had three title matches. AEW Fyter Fest Night One was a very strong show overall and everyone was wondering how would the second installment fare?

It was a very superior show last night. Fyter Fest Night Two had two standout matches and non-stop wrestling action throughout the episode. I think we all could get used to these special episodes of AEW.

The two nights of Fyter Fest has to be considered a real success and AEW will now shift their attention to Fight For The Fallen.

While I try to figure out why Taz brought back a championship from over twenty years ago, here is my list of the top five most surprising moments of AEW Fyter Fest Night Two:

#5 A Great Night for the heels

It was the last moment before Chris Jericho ends Orange Cassidy's night.

It was strange to see the good guys win every match last week. It certainly raised some concerns if the heels were strong enough in All Elite Wrestling going forward. That seemed to change in a hurry on Night two.

The heels had a great night at AEW Fyter Fest. Nyla Rose destroyed her two opponents while Lance Archer proved that he is a dominant monster once again. The Dark Order took down the former Tag Team Champions, SCU. Chris Jericho was pushed to his limit against Orange Cassidy in the main event.

The Lucha Bros and Butcher & The Blade even pulled off a shocker against The Young Bucks and FTR. It was good to see the heels pull off all the major victories at AEW Fyter Fest. It was surprising but it bodes well for the future of AEW.

#4 The FTW Championship returns

Is it 1999 again?

We were promised a major announcement that would shock the pro wrestling world on Wednesday night during Taz’s promo. That certainly raised the bar pretty high. Did the announcement deliver at AEW Fyter Fest? Well, that is hard to say.

Taz decided to give a title to Brian Cage at Fyter fest before his AEW World Title match at next week’s Fight for the Fallen. Brian Cage is now the FTW World Champion. This is a title invented by Taz back in 1998 as part of a storyline in ECW when he couldn’t get a title shot against Shane Douglas for the World Title. The belt itself was only held by Taz and Sabu before it was “retired” in March of 1999. It wasn’t exactly a prestigious title to say the least.

But, it was certainly a surprise. I can’t think any of us expected Taz to bring back a storyline title twenty years later after it was retired at Fyter Fest.

What role that title will play going forward will be interesting and shall see it in the weeks to come. However, it does add another wrinkle to next week’s World Title match between Cage and Jon Moxley.

#3 AEW doesn’t follow the rules

The rare orange juice cheating in professional wrestling.

It might have been mentioned before but AEW has a real issue with following the rules. The company simply ignores them. It was surprising to see so much rule-breaking on display at AEW Fyter Fest. It would seem like an issue going forward.

The examples were very clear on Wednesday night. The company's lack of following tag team rules was clear during the AEW Tag Team Championship Match at Fyter Fest. Did anyone make a real tag? It certainly didn’t seem like it.

It continued in the Archer-Janela match when Lance Archer slammed Joey Janela through a table. That would seem to be a disqualification, right? But it was simply ignored in the outcome of the match at Fyter Fest.

The lack of rule-following even affected the main event. It ended when Santana and Ortiz cheated directly in front of the referee at Fyter Fest.

The lack of going by the rules makes tag matches hard to follow. Hopefully, AEW will take notice as a lot of fans already have.

#2 FTR and The Young Bucks lose

It was an incredible match at Fyter Fest.

It seemed so simple. FTR and The Young Bucks have been building their feuds even before both were part of AEW. They have had a friendly rivalry so far in the company. FTR is undefeated and it seemed Lucha Bros and Butcher & The Blade were stepping stones on the way to bigger things. But that didn’t happen at Fyter Fest.

The match was amazing. The athleticism by Fenix and Nick Jackson was particularly impressive. There were some moves in the match that were simply spectacular. I am sure none of us will get sick of seeing these teams fight each other in future matches.

The finish was shocking. We had a moment where all four members of Young Bucks and FTR hit a top rope move onto Blade and still didn’t get the pinfall. All it took was Matt accidentally kicking Dax Harwood to cost the faces their match at Fyter Fest. It certainly builds the tension between the two teams going forward. Hopefully, it will lead to more matches before these eight amazing competitors as well.

#1 Orange Cassidy comes out strong despite losing clean

This is just the beginning of an incredible main event between Orange Cassidy and Chris Jericho.
Ad

It certainly seemed strange that Chris Jericho, the former AEW World Champion, would get involved in a long feud with Orange Cassidy with Fyter Fest being the first chapter.

Orange Cassidy is usually a comedy wrestler and the “laziest” in AEW. But Orange Cassidy has shown himself to be a capable wrestler in feuds with the likes of Pac. But his match with Chris Jericho at Fyter Fest has moved him to the next level.

The main event of Fyter Fest Night Two was excellent. Orange Cassidy played the role of the underdog nicely. He overcame cheating from Santana and Ortiz. I mean who uses orange juice to cheat?

After they were removed, the match picked up. It was back and forth with multiple, believable near falls. It really seemed like Orange Cassidy was going to win until Jericho hit the Judas Effect. But Orange Cassidy still comes out of the feud looking great. Who would have thought that before this match?
