Best and worst of AEW Dynamite - WWE RAW storyline continues, Big botch from Mike Tyson

AEW Dynamite was a fantastic show from start to finish, in my personal opinion. AEW continued the momentum that they had built up at Double or Nothing, a show that was praised by professional wrestling fans worldwide and the fallout episode of Dynamite was a spectacular affair indeed.

My colleagues informed me that WWE NXT was a spectacular show as well, and so if you have a moment I would love for you guys to sound off in the section below and let me know which show you watched and how much you liked watching it. Isn't it great that we are spoiled for choice on Wednesday nights and thanks to FITE TV and the WWE Network, we can watch the other show on demand whenever we may choose to do so?

So, without further ado let me start my AEW Dynamite review with what happened at the end of the show.

#1 Best: AEW builds to Tyson vs. Jericho

I love the fact that AEW is acknowledging the fact that stars in their roster are WWE Superstars because these are men who have come with a legacy. And so Matt Hardy taps into his WWE persona when it is necessary and yes, Mike Tyson vs. Chris Jericho is being built based on an angle from RAW from a decade ago.

Listen, Mike Tyson and Chris Jericho are mainstream names and even people who are not necessarily fans of boxing or professional wrestling may be aware of them. In a way, this is a massive crossover fight that should make a lot more people who weren't necessarily watching AEW fans of the product.

This is, by far, the biggest angle that the promotion has seen yet by a long margin.

#1 Worst: Mike Tyson makes a botch, live on AEW

As great as the main event segment on AEW was, it was at best, a 7/10 segment to me. And the sad thing is that it could have easily been a 10/10 segment that would have really gotten fans hooked had the final segment been treated with a little more seriousness by AEW.

The whole 'pep talk' thing would have been great had it not been a prelude to Mike Tyson coming out and getting in Chris Jericho's face in one of the most newsworthy moments on AEW Dynamite. As great as Vickie Guerrero is, I don't think that introducing the Inner Circle in the manner that she did was the right thing for this episode at least since, from the very start, this segment was presented as lacking in seriousness.

But what really killed this segment for me, personally, is the fact that Mike Tyson, the greatest boxer in the history of the sport, could not tear his shirt off in the same manner that Hulk Hogan made famous and he struggled with it, live on AEW Dynamite.

#2 Best: The arrival of #FTR to AEW

Some people think that The Young Bucks, who also hold prominent backstage positions in AEW can be considered to be the best tag team in the world. Some others believe that The Revival, who will be known as #FTR in AEW is the very best. Well, we have a chance to see arguably the two best tag teams of the modern era tussle in a dream match very soon in AEW, even though it seems that they are on the same page at this time, at least.

Also, because they are so very different from the high-fliers in the AEW Tag Team Division, chances are that all of the teams in the tag team division will benefit from working with them. Kenny Omega and Hangman Page can certainly tear it up with them and even traditional babyfaces like SCU could have a great match when the stage is right.

Let's hope that The Revival or #FTR reach heights of success in AEW that they could never reach when they were in WWE.

#2 Worst: Britt Baker's promo this week on AEW

If you look at the entire AEW Women's Division at the moment, Dr. Britt Baker is the only one with a clearly defined character that goes beyond the obvious. I mean you could always say that Nyla Rose is a monster or that Kris Statlander is an alien, but Baker has done some fantastic character work on AEW Dynamite over the last few months, in my personal opinion. And so I say this with the utmost respect and admiration as a fan of her work- this week's promo wasn't very good at all.

The content was good and it was pretty hilarious in its own right, but if you're on the same show as Cody Rhodes who cuts a really passionate promo about his recent title win and MJF who talks about not getting a title shot despite his amazing record, you really have to step up your game to outshine your peers. I would have to say that Dr. Baker was a step behind in this regard.

#3 Best: Jungle Boy gets a huge push from AEW

The easy thing to do would have been for AEW to have MJF win the Battle Royal and face Cody Rhodes again, only this time for the AEW TNT Championship. And yet, they took a chance with Jungle Boy, a man who has impressed me on several occasions thus far and continues to impress with just how good his work is.

The match featured some really good storytelling as well with AEW hinting at a split between MJF and Wardlow in the battle royal. One has to stay tuned and catch all the action to find out where that storyline may be heading, I suppose.

In any case, this was a pretty good episode of AEW Dynamite and I do hope you had as much fun reading this review as I did in watching the show. The company has hit it out of the park in recent times, and I am thrilled at just how far they have come.
