Monday Night Raw started off with a bang!

Five brilliant moves WWE made on Raw this week

Monday Night Raw has been accused of getting stale over the last couple of months and while the company has been able to have a good show here and there, they couldn't seem to pull it off on a weekly basis. All of that changed this week however as Monday Night kicked off with an electric opening segment between Bruan Strowman and Bobby Lashley.

That feeling only intensified as the night went on and really showed what Monday Night Raw was capable of when the company was running on all cylinders. It also showed that WWE is still capable of pulling in fans with engaging content, which a lot of o people have doubted over the last couple of months.

#5 More mature content

Believe it or not, Maria Kanellis had the line of the night on Raw!

WWE made a lot of changes to Monday Night Raw this week and one of the biggest of them all had to be its shift to more mature content. It also provided audiences with some of the funniest moments Monday Night Raw has had in a while, which is a huge improvement from their usual dry humor.

In all honesty, this kind of humor had layers and maybe that was the best part about it it. From Drake Maverick having to choose between his new bride and The 24/7 title to Maria Kanellis throwing out the term for a female pregnant dog in reference to her husband and Seth Rollins, this episode had an edge to it!

#4 Reuniting The Club

AJ Styles reunited The Club on Monday Night Raw!

While it is true that WWE has hinted at reuniting The Club for several weeks now, the company finally pulled the trigger on the move after AJ Styles lost to Ricochet in the main event of Monday Night Raw. If nothing else, it served as a distinct warning shot that WWE was ready for competition and would do anything to destroy it.

Beyond that, it proved just how far WWE is willing to go to stay on top and also leaves a lot of interesting storyline possibilities. In fact, between The Club now running wild on WWE television and the opportunity for Finn Balor or even others to join the group, the company has a very interesting commodity on their hands.

Whether WWE can ultimately capitalize on what they created in the main event of Monday Night Raw remains to be seen and will depend on how serious they are about change, but they have already shaken things up quite a bit. They have also set the stage for what should be an interesting next couple of weeks of programming.

#3 Giving The Miz a decisive win

The Miz picked up a huge win on Monday Night Raw this week

Let's be serious for a moment.

The Miz has needed a decisive win ever since losing to Shane McMahon at back to back pay per views, and he finally got it by making Elias tap out to the figure four leglock. While defeating Vince McMahon's lackey is no serious feat all on its own, the moment was heightened by the fact that Miz capitalized after Elias hit his knee on the ring post.

Not only will this allow The Miz to finally get his momentum back since turning face earlier this year, but it also might further the rivalry between him and Elias. The best part is that it could lead to better things for The Miz in the future, which is very much needed after his babyface turn was put on ice after at WrestleMania 35.

Hopefully, this leads to better things in the future or is at least indicative of a stronger and more serious Miz as time goes on.

#2 Making fans care about the 24/7 title

And just like that, WWE made the 24/7 title matter to the fans!
Ad

The 24/7 title has gotten a lot of flack from fans over its design, its name and even sometimes its pointless segments, but all that changed Monday night when Drake Maverick brought his wife. While he was originally there to win back the title and then go on his honeymoon with his wife, he ended up promising his wife that he didn't care about the title at all.

Things only got more interesting a short time later when R-Truth joined No Way Jose's conga line and taunted Maverick at ringside. He even danced with Maverick's bride before putting the title on full display and laying on the guardrail. All of this took place while the commentators reiterated that Maverick was going to have to choose between the title and his wife, which only added humor to the situation.

Maverick eventually ended up winning The 24/7 title later in the night while his wife was taking a bathroom break and she didn't seem all that upset about it as they ran off. If nothing else, at least this is a way to keep a fleshed out story around the 24/7 title and also gives WWE a chance to explore some more mature comedy.

#1 Non-formulaic openings

Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley collided in what became and epic start to Monday Night Raw!

What a way to kick off Monday Night Raw.

WWE finally ditched their formulaic talking segments that served as an opening for a true "OMG" moment, and it definitely paid dividends. Beyond that, it sucked the viewer right into the show and made them want to know what would happen next when Raw came back from break.

Maybe that was due to how unexpected the moment was or that grim-looking static shot that cameraman transfixed on after the collision, but every little detail seemed to matter more than ever. Furthermore, it blurred the lines between fiction and reality, thus leaving fans on the edge of their seats throughout the encounter.

In the end, this way a great way to kick off Monday Night Raw and will go down in history as one of the best openings the red brand has ever had. It will also serve as a reminder to the WWE Universe that the company is a lot better than most fans give them credit for and is capable of pulling things like this off at any time.
