In 2012, Austin Aries was a guy that no wrestling company would ever be chosen as the top guy in the company but thanks to his hard work and the fans, TNA wrestling gave him an opportunity to showcase his talents.

Every time Aries came out to wrestle, he got the loudest ovation and similar to how WWE fans would chant for Daniel Bryan during other people’s matches they did the same during this time period for him

Aries was the longest reigning X-Division Champion heading into Destination X 2012 which is when “option c” came into play.

Aries cut a deal with Hulk Hogan where he would cash in his X-Division Championship for a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in a match with Bobby Roode, who was the longest reigning TNA World Heavyweight champion at that time, at Destination X.

The result of all that was this as a great championship match with Roode and Aries putting on a classic.

Roode plays a good cowardly, arrogant yet intelligent heel in how he avoids the majority of Aries’ moves and manages to really work him over rather viciously.

Aries is very energetic and likable. He made many exciting comebacks and works well off of Roode’s heel antics, especially since he has a much more exciting offense involving high flying and submissions, and he also emotes a lot more so he is easier to connect with.

Watching Aries survive all of Roode’s dirty tactics was pretty cool, and the finish with the rather dangerous looking brain-buster and the slow three count from the injured referee really added a lot of tension to the moment, leading it to a well-deserved title victory for Aries.

What makes Sting special? His first AEW opponent opens up RIGHT HERE.
