The biggest winners and losers of last night's RAW (June 1)

Last night's WWE RAW was decent enough, with some good storyline progression and nothing totally offensive that would constitute a turn-off.

Overall, I would say that RAW is doing better during this year's post-WrestleMania slump than it has in years' past, despite the lack of crowds, which is a credit to the show's creative shakeup last year. Putting Paul Heyman in the lead has worked wonders.

Of course, that didn't stop a few bad segments.

Who got the most and least out of last night's RAW? Let's take a look at them.

Winners: Seth Rollins and Aleister Black

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this is the best version of Seth Rollins in his long and illustrious WWE career to date. The Monday Night Messiah character is so insufferable and yet so enthralling that you can't help but be interested in what he's doing. He's even better off now than he was as Universal Champion at this time last year.

After making a mockery of Rey Mysterio, he tussled with Aleister Black. The two had a very good match that ended in a screwy fashion, but it was certainly an indicator of what the two could do on a bigger stage without interruption.

When you think about it, Aleister Black is the perfect foil to the Monday Night Messiah character. An extended feud between them getting to explore this aspect of their personalities may be more interesting than the WWE title scene at the moment.

If the RAW is building to a match between these two at SummerSlam (whenever it takes place), you will certainly hear no complaints from me! Rey Mysterio currently feels like a smaller step in a larger picture at which we got some hints last night.

Winner: Apollo Crews

I'd be the last to tell you that Apollo Crews' segments were good yesterday. They were clunky at best. Nevertheless, in terms of his booking, last night was another indicator that he's in line for a push for a little while.

He first fought Kevin Owens to a standstill and then stood shoulder to shoulder with him against Andrade and Angel Garza. In the latter match, Apollo Crews got the victory for his impromptu team with Owens.

We'll need to see where his path takes him next, but it's bright at the moment.

Loser: The RAW Tag Team Division

This week, the Street Profits and Viking Raiders went bowling. It was a funny segment, but it's still leaving us wondering where, exactly, the RAW Tag Team Division is going. Will these two teams have a match at Backlash? All of it remains uncertain.

These segments have gone on too long without major progression. We need to see some kind of escalation if we're to take the RAW Tag Team Division at all seriously.

Losers: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross

Billie Kay defeated Nikki Cross in a singles match in RAW last night. It wasn't a good match. Billie Kay isn't exactly good in the ring.

But moreover, it was yet another example of the company not being able to do title feuds without having the challengers beat the champions in non-title situations and then losing the match that actually counts. It's rote storytelling and it's where this feud is headed.

Though they are being featured, the Women's Tag Team Titles have slid back into irrelevancy since the Kabuki Warriors lost them. Can anyone say they're excited about this feud?

Winner: Nia Jax

I only use the term "winner" loosely. Nia Jax once again showed how dangerous she is in the ring (and not in a good way) during her match with Kairi Sane. She then looked strong by interrupting Asuka's match with Charlotte Flair. The green face paint in mockery of the champion was a nice touch.

She wins for now, but we know her fate at Backlash.

Truth be told, Jax's dangerous botch last night overshadowed everything else. It's a wonder why the company continues to allow her to compete without major changes to her style. This is far from the first time.
