#5. Backstage news on Kairi Sane leaving WWE and retiring soon

Kairi Sane has not been featured on RAW since suffering a cut on her forehead in her last match against Nia Jax.

Dave Meltzer has now revealed a few critical backstage details on Sane's WWE status and future in the company.

It was reported that Kairi Sane would be returning to Japan to be with her husband. WWE knew about the plan since May.

It was additionally reported that Kairi Sane has been cleared to return to action and she is listed to be a part of the latest RAW tapings. Sane has also been advertised to appear on the next episode of RAW.

Meltzer noted that before injuring herself, the plan was to book a career-ending injury angle for Kairi Sane. The Superstar who was planned to end Sane's career would then go on to face Asuka at SummerSlam. It was noted that Nia Jax was not the Superstar that WWE had in mind for the role, and it could have been either Shayna Baszler or Charlotte Flair. Meltzer did not confirm the name of the Superstar.

There is also a possibility that the career-ending plan may have been nixed following Paul Heyman's removal from the Executive Director's role.

The idea talked about backstage, however, was for Sane to leave WWE at the end of her contract. The plan was for her to reportedly wrestle for a year in Japan before announcing her retirement.

WWE has refrained from mentioning her name on WWE TV. The company didn't even want to harp about her injury on TV.

As things stand, Sane could be on her way out of the WWE, and the 31-year-old Superstar's in-ring career could also come to an end soon.

#4. Vince McMahon reportedly nixing Shayna Baszler's WWE push, rejected the idea of Becky Lynch losing the title

Shayna Baszler has been kept away from TV for a considerable amount of time, and the last update stated that she is healthy, but the WWE creative doesn't have anything for her at the moment.

Becky Lynch herself noted during a recent interview that she had pitched the idea of losing the title to Baszler at WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer revealed in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Vince McMahon rejected the idea of Becky Lynch dropping the WWE RAW Women's Championship to Shayna Baszler at WrestleMania 36. Vince McMahon even turned down the idea of Baszler winning the Money in the Bank match and went with Asuka.

"While she (Lynch) actually was pregnant at Mania she didn’t know it until a couple of weeks later, but she did know they were trying and it would be best to get the title off her. WWE rejected the idea. The idea at the time was Baszler would eventually get the title and they did a finish to build for a rematch using the Money in the Bank stip because Baszler was scheduled to win that match. Vince nixed that and went with Asuka."

It was added that Vince McMahon completely 'soured' on Shayna Baszler as he was unable to understand the style that an MMA fighter could use in professional wrestling. Baszler reportedly 'didn't check Vince McMahon's buttons' with regards to women in wrestling and he decided to stop her push and remove her from WWE TV. It should be noted that all of this happened before Paul Heyman's ouster.

Meltzer noted the following:

"Vince also soured on Baszler completely because he never conceptually grasped the style that an MMA fighter should use in pro wrestling and she doesn't check his buttons when it comes to women in wrestling, so he made the call to remove her push and take her off television. This was all before Heyman was dumped."

#3. Speculation on the backup plan for the main event of WWE SummerSlam

The travel ban between the US and Canada due to the COVID-19 pandemic could bring up a scenario wherein Brock Lesnar may be unable to travel for WWE SummerSlam. What happens then?

Tom Colohue speculated on the latest edition of the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast that if Brock Lesnar cannot get into the country in time for SummerSlam, then the company could end up booking Drew McIntyre to go up against Randy Orton.

The plan is still to have Lesnar vs. McIntyre as the main event of WWE SummerSlam, but that could all change if The Beast Incarnate's gets held up in Canada.

Tom explained:

"Orton vs. Edge was supposed to be the SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar lined up for Drew McIntyre. Now that Edge is out of the picture, they have given Orton something to do while they work out what to do next. If they can't get Brock Lesnar into the country, or if they just need someone for McIntyre, we may end up with McIntyre vs. Orton, but we need to kill a little bit of time on the way.

WWE has also come up with an extensive taping schedule until SummerSlam despite uncertainty about the PPV happening at a venue outside the Performance Center.

#2. Backstage interest in WWE to sign Tessa Blanchard

Tessa Blanchard's recent IMPACT Wrestling departure has made the 24-year-old the most sought-after talent in pro wrestling. Dave Meltzer had first reported that WWE had sent out feelers about signing Blanchard.

Tom Colohue now reports on the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast that many people in the WWE have been signing Blanchard's praises for a while.

Several people backstage in WWE are reportedly 'chewing off Vince McMahon's ears' about signing the former IMPACT Wrestling star. It was noted that the WWE boss does find it hard to get away from the growing voices that are trying to convince him to get Blanchard on board.

Tom revealed:

"There definitely is, I've mentioned this already. She's a big name now, and there are a number of people in the WWE who have been singing Tessa's praises for a while. I don't know for sure whether they'd take the punt, but it wouldn't surprise me. I'm not going to name any names of who in the company has been essentially chewing Vince's ear off as to, 'you should hire Tessa Blanchard', but he finds it very difficult to get away from it, I'll tell you that."

#1. Backstage details about the Wyatt Swamp Fight at WWE Extreme Rules: The Horror Show

WrestlingInc's exclusive report revealed a few interesting details about the upcoming Wyatt Swamp Fight between Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman which is slated to take place at WWE Extreme Rules: The Horror Show on July 19th.

It's being reported that the cinematic match will be filmed next week and WWE stunt coordinator Ellis Edwards will be involved. Edwards is a veteran stuntman in the pro wrestling business as he has been working in the field dating back to 1990 when he did stunt work for WCW.

The report states that Ellis is involved in a few stunts in the match and while not every stunt is said to be big, Edwards is there to ensure the safety of the talents involved. He would be explaining the talents of how the stunts can be done safely. It was noted that Edwards has worked with Strowman before, specifically during the ring collapse angle with Big Show from 2017 and the ambulance flip with Roman Reigns.

Bray Wyatt will be unsurprisingly heavily involved in the planning of the match including Triple H and Jeremy Borash.

WWE's current plan is to have the 'Three Faces of Bray Wyatt' take on Braun Strowman. The Firefly Fun House Bray has already lost, and the Eater of Worlds avatar is expected to win the non-title match at Extreme Rules, which would tie the score at 1-1.

The plan is to end the angle with a Fiend vs. Strowman match for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
