SummerSlam 2020: 5 stunning ways Dominik Mysterio can upset Seth Rollins

Dominik Mysterio's appearances in WWE have led to increasing excitement each time he's been around. His involvement with WWE dates back to 2005 when his father Rey Mysterio faced Eddie Guerrero in the unforgettable and uncomfortable "Custody of Dominik" ladder match.

However, Dominik's involvement in WWE programming became more pronounced last year when Rey Mysterio was feuding with Samoa Joe. Dominik was then involved in Rey Mysterio's WWE title feud against Brock Lesnar and had his first physical involvement at Survivor Series 2019 - where he attacked Brock Lesnar and hit him with a 619.

Dominik's involvement with Seth Rollins, however, has been on a whole different level. With his father taken out in the "Eye for an Eye" match, there's only one thing that Dominik has in his mind - revenge.

And so Dominik Mysterio challenged Seth Rollins to a match at SummerSlam 2020 on the August 3rd episode of RAW, and following another assault from Dominik, Rollins was provoked and accepted his challenge.

The odds are certainly against Dominik Mysterio, but given that it's his debut, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to imagine him winning. If he does, here are five clever and cunning ways for it to happen.

#5. Aleister Black returns with a vengeance to help Dominik Mysterio

Aleister Black was the last person to become a victim to the eye-gouging of The Monday Night Messiah. However, it wasn't Seth Rollins who did the eye-gouging - it was Murphy.

Seth Rollins forced Murphy to attack his old rival's eye, and with a lot of hesitation, he did. While Aleister Black was seemingly written off TV, we won't be surprised to see him make an early return to help Dominik defeat Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2020.

#4. Dominik tricks Murphy into distracting Seth Rollins

How will this work for Dominik? Let's give some context. Murphy has been a part of Seth Rollins' faction since early 2020. After his consecutive losses to Aleister Black, he was distraught and stuck around ringside even after his match was done.

This resulted in his entanglement with Seth Rollins and subsequent alliance. With AOP out of the picture due to an injury, and Austin Theory reportedly suspended for unknown reasons, Murphy has stuck around.

Tom Colohue even reported that WWE was planning an "emergency break-up" in case they need a solid match for SummerSlam. Luckily, that break-up isn't happening just yet. However, the "ethical dilemma" that Murphy faced before being forced to gouge Aleister Black's eye out was a clear indicator that something could be brewing.

If Dominik were to trick Murphy into distracting Seth Rollins and getting the win, not only would it protect Rollins, but it would add to the story between Murphy and Rollins and likely cause more dissent. It's a win-win situation.

#3. Dominik takes a page from Seth Rollins' book, gouges his eyes

Wouldn't this be a sweet one for Dominik Mysterio? The entire feud between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio heading into Extreme Rules was an "eye for an eye". The eye-gouging has been one of the most essential parts of the story told in this entire saga.

Storytelling is what's most important and Dominik seems to have a good grasp of it so far, even though we've seen so little of it. It seems clear that not only is there a massive experience gap between Seth Rollins and Dominik Mysterio, but given that Rollins is truly among the best in the world, it would make little sense for Dominik to win clean.

If there's a No DQ stipulation (which there ideally should be), the best course of action for Dominik to win would be revenge - by gouging Seth Rollins' eye or even both his eyes, blinding him, and giving Dominik Mysterio the victory.

It would be a fantastic piece of storytelling if Dominik did to Rollins what Rollins did to his father, Rey Mysterio.

#2. Rey Mysterio returns to help Dominik

Rey Mysterio's big issue right now seems to be that he hasn't signed a WWE contract just yet. Tom Colohue had an interesting report before the official announcement of the match and said that Rey Mysterio's contract status depended on Dominik's match:

"That really depends on if Rey Mysterio signs a new deal. It's also possible that we could see Dominik Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins in a singles match, but that would be done as a way to convince Rey Mysterio, by saying that here, 'we're pushing your son'."

It turns out that this was true and that this was a great way of possibly persuading Mysterio to sign a new contract. For all we know, Rey Mysterio might have already signed a new contract and could simply be held back for a surprise SummerSlam return.

Either way, this seems to be the best-case scenario. It's hard to imagine Dominik having his first match in WWE without any involvement of his father Rey Mysterio. It would make for a great SummerSlam moment.

#1. Samoa Joe's involvement with Dominik

Samoa Joe made a big tease on the August 3rd episode of RAW

This might seem like an odd scenario for Dominik, but when Samoa Joe gets involved in any feud, there's always a great sense of excitement. He's the full package and his intensity is something that few Superstars in WWE can match.

Interestingly, Dominik and Samoa Joe have a history together and that would logically make him hate Joe, as he was the one who took the United States Championship from his father Rey Mysterio last year.

Either way, Samoa Joe has been cheering Dominik on in his pursuit for vengeance, and on August 3rd, he stood up for his commentary desk colleague Tom Phillips, who was being harassed by Seth Rollins for using his voice to cheer Dominik rather than stay neutral.

It was a big tease for him to get back into the ring, similar to his return early this year. If he were to get off his commentary desk to help Dominik beat Seth Rollins, it would make for an incredible moment. Joe could even take Dominik under his wing in Rey Mysterio's absence.
