Ranking The Undertaker's last 10 singles matches

The Undertaker had one of the best careers in professional wrestling history. Although he didn't win as many championships as other top stars, his fame is not bound to any accolades.

He was a force to be reckoned with and had a legacy stretching over three decades. The Phenom witnessed the transitions and evolution of the industry and adapted himself accordingly.

The Undertaker is a remarkable legend who earned the respect and admiration from all around the globe.

As the future Hall of Famer has retired from wrestling, let us discuss and rank the last ten singles (1v1) matches he participated in.

#10. The Undertaker defeated Goldberg - WWE Super ShowDown 2019

One of the issues with WWE's early shows in Saudi Arabia was that the matches appeared random. Two legends seemed to be picked out of thin air and booked to face each other.

Ad

This was particularly the case in 2019 before Super ShowDown, as Vince McMahon's promotion announced the dream match between Goldberg and The Undertaker. This was the first time these superstars ever cpmpeted in a singles match.

It didn't take long for the dream to transition into a nightmare. Goldberg suffered a concussion early in the match as he bumped his head into a turnbuckle. This started a chain of undesirable events.

The Deadman decided to finish the match earlier than initially scheduled and lifted Goldberg for a Tombstone Piledriver where both superstars fell. He improvised and instead gave Goldberg a chokeslam which too was botched.

The match turned out to be nine minutes of blunder.

#9. The Phenom defeated John Cena - WrestleMania 33

Ad

John Cena was determined to have a match at WrestleMania 34. He entered the Royal Rumble and used his free-agent status to get matches for both top championships at the Elimination Chamber for RAW and Fastlane for SmackDown.

However, all of his efforts went in vain. He finally started challenging The Undertaker to a match but received no reply. Thus, he sat in the audience during WrestleMania to enjoy the show.

He was later informed that the The Phenom was in the arena. This resulted in Cena leaving the crowd and as he reached the ring he was interrupted by Elias. The 16-time World Champion overcame him and started leaving the arena. The Deadman's bell rang and his hat and coat appeared in the ring, which he left there the previous year.

A dream match between the two icons finished underwhelmingly within two minutes and 45 seconds with nothing extraordinary happening in that time.

#8. Triple H defeated The Undertaker - Super ShowDown 2018

Ad

The Undertaker and Triple H were booked for a match at the first edition of Super ShowDown. Both superstars reluctantly agreed to the contest as they had already closed their chapter at WrestleMania XXVIII. This match was billed as the last time ever.

The bout was stipulated as no disqualification so Kane and Shawn Michaels started physically interfering in the brawl.

In the climax, Michaels hit Taker with a Sweet Chin Music before a pedigree by Triple H. The teams demonstrated mutual respect before The Brothers of Destruction started assaulting DX. The match had nothing unusual in the 27 minutes and 45 seconds of clash.

#7. The Deadman defeated Rusev - Greatest Royal Rumble, 2018

Another random match in Saudi Arabia featured The Deadman taking on Rusev with the match being announced as a casket match.

The fact that The Phenom was enthusiastic about the program alongside Rusev speaks volumes about The Bulgarian Brute's excellence.

The match lasted 9 minutes and 40 seconds with Taker chokeslamming Rusev into the casket. However, before The Deadman could shut the lid, he was attacked by Aiden English. The Undertaker threw English into the casket as well to win the match.

After Brock Lesnar broke The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak, the latter took a break from wrestling. Bray Wyatt challenged him to a match at Fastlane which was later announced to be held at The Showcase of the Immortals.

This was the first time The Phenom was in action after his streak was broken. The Eater of the Worlds gave a tough fight and was even legitimately injured during the bout.

During the match, Wyatt kicked out of a Tombstone Piledriver and Taker did the same after receiving a Sister Abigail. The Phenom ultimately emerged victorious after yet another Tombstone.

#5. Roman Reigns defeated The Undertaker - WrestleMania 33

The second time The Deadman lost at WrestleMania was at the hands of Roman Reigns. After Reigns eliminated The Phenom from the Royal Rumble that year, their feud became inevitable.

The match was held as the main event of WrestleMania where the two superstars fought it out to determine whose yard it was. The two stars of the promotion fought valiantly and Reigns stood tall after a decent bout.

After the match, The Deadman put his hat and coat down in the middle of the ring almost as if he was retiring from the industry. This turned out to be just an image as the future Hall of Famer returned after his loss to The Big Dog.

The Undertaker faced Shane McMahon in Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 32. Vince McMahon himself sent his son to brawl against The Phenom in his yard.

When The Chairman presented his daughter with the legacy award, Shane returned to the promotion after a seven-year hiatus. He demanded control over RAW or the secret of McMahon's lockbox was threatened to be revealed.

The Boss had no choice but to bargain, he made a deal with his son that he would get whatever he wanted if he defeated an opponent of Vince's choosing. Shane accepted the deal and The Undertaker was revealed to be Mr McMahon's pick.

It was a great clash at the Showcase of the Immortals in which McMahon iconically performed a move from the top of the cell. However, The Deadman stood tall in the match and showed respect to Shane McMahon.

Brock Lesnar was moments away from winning the WWE Championship from Seth Rollins when his past sins cost him the title. He simply couldn't get away after breaking the most famous streak in professional wrestling.

The Undertaker appeared and attacked Lesnar, which set up a match at SummerSlam. The match headlined the event and was an intense bout from beginning to end.

After Lesnar applied Kimura's Lock on The Deadman, the timekeeper rang the bell as Taker was presumably tapping out. However, the referee didn't see anything and thus the match continued.

The Beast Incarnate started celebrating his victory and The Phenom utilized this distraction to hold Lesnar in the Hell's Gate manuever which forced him to pass out.

Perhaps the best Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar match was in a Hell in a Cell match which featured the two superstars battling for the last time.

The match took a turn of brutality when Lesnar removed the ring cover and exposed the floor underneath. The Phenom chokeslammed Lesnar on the exposed floor and proceeded to give him a Tombstone Piledriver.

The Beast kicked out and gave a nasty low-blow to The Deadman and hit a third F-5 to win. Taker was attacked by The Wyatt Family after the match and was carried away by them.

After COVID-19 struck the globe, WWE had to organize WrestleMania 36 behind closed doors. With the monumental career of The Undertaker about to come to an end, it would have been a crime to book his last match in that situation.

Rather, the promotion found a creative solution. The Deadman faced off against AJ Styles in a Boneyard match as his last contest. Taker entered the cemetery on his motorbike akin to his American badass persona.

The match worked as a slideshow of the career of The Phenom and also featured a great moment in which he rose from the dead to attack Styles. The match was a worthy farewell to a superstar of the highest caliber.
