WWE/AEW history: Awesome Kong defeats Seth Rollins in a rare indie match

The backstory

It's no secret that WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins went through a lot to get where he's at. Rollins wrestled in backyard promotions and several indie companies for years before being picked up by WWE and getting signed to Florida Championship Wrestling.

Donning the name of Tyler Black, Rollins won the Ring of Honor World Title on one occasion, and held the ROH World Tag Team Titles alongside Jimmy Jacobs on two separate occasions.

On the other hand, we have Awesome Kong, who was revealed as the fourth competitor in a women's match at All Elite Wrestling's first show, Double Or Nothing. The match was originally scheduled to be a triple threat bout between Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, and Kylie Rae.

Not many are aware of the fact that the former Kharma and the current Universal Champion Seth Rollins once wrestled each other in a small-time indie promotion.

It has been a long while since this match took place. Awesome Kong is currently signed with All Elite Wrestling. The promotion is going to unveil the Women's World Title at the upcoming All Out PPV and Kong would certainly be one of the top contenders to hold the coveted belt.

Rollins went on to become a member of the notorious faction, Shield, alongside Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. After splitting from The Shield, Rollins became WWE World Champion at WrestleMania 31 and hasn't looked back since then.
