The Drifter Elias never stood a chance against the Big Dog at Money in the Bank 2019

WWE Money in the Bank 2019: 3 potential reasons why Roman Reigns squashed Elias

The 2019 edition of Money in the Bank PPV is done and dusted. Most of the WWE fans are still talking about the exceptional main event and WWE's horrendous decision to give the Money in the Bank Briefcase to Brock Lesnar.

Some other fans were talking about Bayley's successful cash-in on Charlotte Flair to win the SD Live Women's Championship. By this, Bayley became the first ever women's Triple Crown Champion in WWE. Bayley has already won the RAW Women's title and WWE Women's tag team titles (with Sasha Banks).

However, one match many fans missed was the one between Elias and Roman Reigns. To be honest, no one can blame the fans for missing it since the clash finished in less than ten seconds. Reigns squashed Elias after hitting him with a spear for the three-count.

In this list, we will take a look at a few reasons why Roman Reigns squashed Elias.

#3 To assert Roman Reigns as a top face

If a convincing win against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 35 was not an indicator of Roman Reigns' status on the WWE food chain, Reigns' seven-second win over Elias would definitely assert it. Roman Reigns is still one of the WWE's most protected stars and WWE does not any second thoughts on pushing him incessantly.

Elias had no credibility whatsoever while facing Reigns and thus, what we saw at Money in the Bank was the obvious result. The top babyface shattered the mid-carder heel.

Even though Seth Rollins is trying to establish himself as the WWE's face on RAW, the fact is that Roman Reigns is still and will remain as WWE's face for a long time to come.

#2 To make time for other matches

The men's Money in the Bank ladder match lasted nineteen minutes

One of WWE's biggest problems with Pay-Per-Views is that they tend to cross the deadline. In an event such as Money in the Bank, where WWE has to finish two separate ladder matches, every second saved add up. Apparently, WWE cut the United States Championship match between Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio short.

WWE had eleven matches on the main card - including two ladder matches that would require at least ten minutes each. While the women's ladder match went on for a little over thirteen minutes, the men's ladder match got nineteen minutes.

If WWE did not cut corners with other matches in the night, we would not have witnessed the amazing sunset flip by Andrade and Finn Balor tonight since those riskier spots might have been removed to accommodate time.

So, this factor may have played a huge role in forcing WWE to have Reigns squash Elias.

#1 To extend Roman Reigns' anti-authority feud

Brace yourself for yet another potential authority feud for Roman Reigns this summer

In case you missed it, Elias was introduced to Smackdown Live by Vince McMahon as the biggest acquisition in Smackdown Live history. In the coming weeks, Elias sided up with Shane McMahon, who has been making some totalitarian decisions on both RAW and SmackDown.

WWE might be looking forward to extending Reigns' feud against Elias, and in turn Shane McMahon, at least until SummerSlam. Reigns' victory yesterday was not clean by any means. The Big Dog gave a Superman Punch to Elias before the match even began, rendering the whole match tainted.

Elias may use this excuse to earn another match against the Big Dog at Super Showdown or even at WWE's newest PPV, Stomping Grounds. That match would result in Reigns' full-fledged attack on the authority that may culminate at SummerSlam.
