The BroserWeights are BroserReady (sorry, sorry, I'll see myself out)

WWE NXT on USA (01/29/20) preview: The One with the Dusty Cup Finals

Well, my friends - it's our first post-Royal Rumble NXT, and it looks like the Black and Yellow brand isn't planning on slowing down tonight.

I'm Kevin C. Sullivan and I do the weekly live coverage of NXT on USA (which I encourage you to check out tonight), and now I'll be doing the weekly preview, as well. Starting right... now.

#5. The Dusty Cup finals are going down tonight

It's fascinating how much people love the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament every year, isn't it? It's as if there's actually a lot of interest in tag team wrestling. Especially when there's actual tag teams involved and not just "hey, let's put these two guys together for no particular reason."

Well, OK, so one of the teams in the finals actually is one of "those teams", but at least they admited it.

That's right, the "BroserWeights" (shut up, that's a great name) meet NXT UK's Grizzled Young Veterans (also a great name) in this year's Dusty Cup finals. The winners not only join the ranks of the Undisputed ERA and the Authors of Pain (as well as mish-mash teams like Samoa Joe and Finn Balor) and walk (well... drive home, probably) with the actual Cup, but also get themselves a NXT Tag Team Championship match in the future - presumably at NXT TakeOver: Portland next month.

It's anybody's guess who pulls this one off, but stories of Riddle's backstage heat notwithstanding (that guy's always pissing somebody off, anyway), my money's still on the GYVs. They're already getting a big push in NXT UK, and I can't really see the BroserWeights really continuing on as a team once the tournament is over.

Speaking of NXT TakeOver: Portland...

#4. What does William Regal have planned for TakeOver?

William Regal

During his usual post-NXT brand PPV live stream interview (geez, that was a mouthful), NXT head honcho and everybody's favorite uncle Triple H mentioned - well, he mentioned a number of things, really. That's how these live stream interviews tend to work. But, one item in particular he mentioned was that NXT Commissioner William Regal has something "pretty epic" in store for the upcoming TakeOver event in Portland, OR.

Chances are, it'll have something to do with the NXT Championship match taking place that night (more on that in a moment). I'll be honest with you, I didn't actually get to watch the interview - I had a four-year-old kid who refused to go to bed after the show (and who could blame her, that show was awesome). But, I do know that NXT doesn't really mess around that often when it comes to promising things like "something epic", so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a "Good Housekeeping" match or something like that.

Although, that would be kind of awesome in a really weird way.

Well, whatever it is, it'll involve the folks in our next segment...

#3. Who is Adam Cole's next challenger?

NXT Champion Adam Cole

While current NXT Champion (of the dudes) Adam Cole had an incredible 2019, the Panama City Playboy's current year has kind of had an auspicious start. Or, more specifically, for his faction mates in the Undisputed ERA.

Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish, the current NXT Tag Team champions, were knocked out of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in the semi-finals by the Grizzled Young Veterans on the January 22nd episode of NXT on USA. On that very same episode, NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong lost his title to Keith Lee.

Finally, during NXT TakeOver: Worlds Collide, the entire team lost in an eight-man tag team battle against Imperium - with the NXT UK faction down a man due to Alexander Wolfe's injury early in the match.

Cole, meanwhile, hasn't had a major title defense since last year, retaining the belt against Finn Balor. So, tonight, William Regal will be announcing who gets the next shot at him.

Keith Lee is going to be busy defending his newly won North American title (probably in a rematch against Strong), while Johnny Gargano and Balor have a score to settle with each other. My guess is that this pretty much leaves Tomasso Ciampa - unless there's somebody I'm forgetting.

Speaking of Keith Lee...

#2. What's in store for the Limitless One?

Keith Lee

Keith Lee is on a roll, and not just because he's round (and very strong and I'm sure that's all muscle and please don't kill me, Mr. Lee). Following an amazing showing at Survivor Series and winning the North American title, he also went toe to toe with WWE Champion Brock Lesnar during the Royal Rumble. Sure, The Beat eliminated him, but Lesnar also eliminated, like, 100 other guys that night, so that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Needless to say, we're going to hear from Lee tonight, as he addresses his... *sigh*... Limitless Lee-gion and celebrates all this cool stuff he's done so far.

I'm guessing there's going to be an interruption - my money's on Roderick Strong but, even if I'm wrong, I don't have any money so ha ha, joke's on you - and either a match set up for TakeOver: Portland or even an impromptu match for that very evening, or sometime in between, I guess. I can't smell the future, I don't know what's going to happen.

Whatever happens, Lee deserves a chance to celebrate his recent success with the NXT crowd.

#1. Dakota Kai VERSUS Tegan Nox... Round one... FIGHT!

Will Tegan Nox finally get payback on Dakota Kai?
Ad

In what has to be one of the most intense feuds in NXT in years, Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox will finally go one on one tonight. At least, that's the plan, anyway. You never know if someone is going to get attacked backstage. Or on their way to the ring. Or if they stop at, I don't kn, DQ or Carl's Jr. or something before going to the arena. Or do they have Hardee's in Orlando, instead? Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. And also hungry.

The two haven't thrown hands with each other since Nox attacked Kai in the crowd of Worlds Collide last week - despite the fact that they both were entered in the women's Rumble match this past Sunday. That feels like a major missed opportunity, but it's time to move on.

Chances are, this one ends in a double DQ or double count-out or... one of those finishes where neither of them win. Probably one of those two. With as intense as this feud is, my guess is that it sets up a match at TakeOver: Portland with a major stipulation - like a cage or a last woman standing match. Oooh, maybe a Punjabi Prison match. That would be... awesome? I guess?

Anyway, that's all the important stuff you need to know for NXT tonight. I'm looking forward to watching it with you. Be sure to leave your comments in the comment section - you know, where comments go. And nobody believes you're making a zillion dollars working from home so don't bother.
