WWE NXT: 5 Points to note- Gargano lays Ciampa out, Championship match confirmed

I've generally liked the wrestling that WWE has put on this week. NXT was just as good as ever. There were only three matches during the show, but each of them was a match with major consequences. Of course, the angle that played out at the end was an absolute masterstroke.

NXT has been the most consistent brand all year long when it comes to pure quality. Every single match has a point and is not a device to merely kill time. Every single segment is a small piece in a larger puzzle, coming together to show us a glimpse of what the larger picture actually looks like.

#5 Blistering main event match

When you book Aleister Black and Ricochet in a tag team match against #DIY for a cup as coveted as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, you know that the result will be absolutely stunning. The four men know each other very well, and the announcers cried themselves hoarse calling what was a great main event match. Ultimately, it was Ricochet and Aleister Black that advanced.

I've not been a fan of this pairing because I've always felt both men have more equity as singles stars than as a unit. But then again, the two men deliver on every single occasion and their matches are absolutely incredible. I suppose they may be the most popular babyface tag team in all of WWE, at the moment, except for The Usos.

I think these two men will go on to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and challenge the War Raiders at TakeOver. What a clash that can potentially be.

#4 It all comes full circle

The reason #DIY was shown losing the match was that Johnny Gargano could not continue owing to an injury to his leg. Good Samaritan Tommaso Ciampa helped him up and carried him up the ramp along with Gargano's wife, Candice LeRae. And in a repeat segment of what happened not so long ago, he launched an attack on Gargano.

Only, in this case, Gargano was prepared and he pre-empted the attack, leaving Ciampa lying on the ramp, in a crumpled heap. What an extraordinary story these two men have told and how amazing is it that every chapter in their story is just as engrossing. There is going to be yet another match between the two men, and I just can't wait.

I wonder if this angle was done to write Ciampa off TV owing to his injury. Let's hope that the two men do manage to finish what's been NXT"s hottest rivalry ever.

#3 Big time upset

I honestly expected the Forgotten Sons to be eliminated in the very first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. Not only did they not get eliminated then, but they've also qualified for the final round now.

Moustache Mountain put on a fight and a half, but they succumbed to the numbers game from the Forgotten Sons who were not averse to taking the low road, to pick up the biggest win of their career. The announcers also made a note of this, but I really wonder if this is the end of the road for the two men, in the finals.

I thought that this match was a showcase for Tyler Bate to remind us just how good he is and also show us his amazing strength. I wonder if there's a bigger chance for him as a singles superstar than in a tag team environment.

We will see what the future holds for him.

#2 Shayna Baszler disrupts the proceedings

It is no secret that Shayna Baszler believes that no other woman in the division is currently at her level. She made this clear on commentary during the Io Shirai vs. Bianca Belair match to determine the number 1 contender for her Championship. And while the match in the ring was a treat for fans, Belair made it a point to interfere and disrupt proceedings.

Having laid all the women out in the ring, she made her way to the back. Mind you, this also included Kairi Sane who'd come in to help her best friend Io Shirai out from this malicious Horsewoman. And then Cathy Kelley would make her way to Baszler to get a small word in.

Kelley informed Baszler that she would be defending her Championship against three women on WrestleMania weekend this time. Now, this should be a contest to watch out for!

#1 Adam Cole vs. Matt Riddle in the works?

Adam Cole and Matt Riddle had a confrontation in the backstage area. And it is very clear, the way that things are building up, that these two men will clash soon. Just think about that for a while, folks. Did we ever think that these two men will ever be in NXT, much less clash against one another?

It's amazing how many talented souls NXT has brought under the same roof and how many dream matches we can see in the next few weeks. Of course, the match is only happening because Riddle went out to confront the new North American Champion, The Velveteen Dream not very long ago. And Adam Cole did not like this.
