WWE RAW: 3 terrible options for Roman Reigns and 3 great ones

Roman Reigns is set to return to RAW...just a couple of weeks after he got drafted over to SmackDown Live. Though he was initially "denied" by WWE officials due to his "obligations" as a SmackDown star, The Big Dog insisted that he's going to be there anyway.

Naturally, the wrestling world has gone abuzz about the possibilities. There was even some criticism of the decision to have Roman Reigns on RAW, because it takes away from the brand split and the effect of the Superstar Shake-Up. Either way, like it or not, Roman Reigns will be on RAW and we're going to find out exactly what he has in store for us.

With that being said, we understand that there are both good and bad possibilities that can come out of Roman Reigns being on RAW. Let's take a look at three options which should not happen and three which definitely should!

#3. Terrible - Return match against The Undertaker

A feud best forgotten about

In a way, it's kind of weird that the Saudi Arabia shows have become the new WrestleMania for The Undertaker. He's essentially stopped appearing at WrestleMania while his appearances on the Saudi Arabia shows are all but guaranteed.

With The Phenom having a match at Saudi Arabia, officials would naturally want him to have the best opponent possible. Roman Reigns does fall under the "biggest opponent" umbrella, but it's a match that's completely unnecessary to run back and we know this because we saw the match become a disaster at the main event of WrestleMania 33.

The Undertaker should have a relatively small role on the show and not take up a major spot by re-running a programme with Roman Reigns - one that was intended to retire him anyway. That would certainly take out the novelty from The Undertaker.

#3. Great - An impromptu tag team match with Seth Rollins

A brief reunion?

While we too, admit that this isn't the best reason to bring Roman Reigns back, it's possible that WWE may be bringing him back just to help with the MITB build. There were rumours that more SmackDown superstars will be present on RAW before MITB so they can help with the build.

What if Roman Reigns were to come out and then get into a confrontation with an old rival, leading to Seth Rollins coming in and teaming up for a match? Rollins & Reigns vs AJ Styles and someone else would certainly be a great option and it would make for a great main event.

As we mentioned, we don't believe this is necessarily the best idea, but if the SmackDown roster is being brought over backstage to Monday Nights anyway, it makes sense for them to utilize a star like Roman Reigns so that they can have a solid main event for RAW.

#2. Terrible - Typical superman Roman Reigns

WWE needs to avoid the same blunders with Roman Reigns

In a way, it's a major surprise that Roman Reigns still hasn't gotten booed like he did before he announced his battle with leukaemia. Sure, when he came back quickly and announced his remission, there was absolutely no way to boo him.

However, the general consensus was that eventually, fans would get back to booing Roman Reigns if the same booking continued. In some ways, it has, but in some ways, it's also been different. The crowds on SmackDown have been very good to The Big Dog and WWE needs to ensure that they keep his momentum alive by not making the same mistakes they did in the past.

One of, if not the biggest mistake was the superman booking that he had, where he was constantly "overcoming the odds" despite fans never buying him as an underdog. Hopefully, WWE decides to avoid any superman booking with Roman Reigns so they can protect him.

#2. Great - Setting up a rivalry against a debuting star

Reigns could have yet another new challenge

Wouldn't it be great if WWE used RAW to promote a feud for SmackDown? Sure, from a logical standpoint, it doesn't really make sense to cross-promote rivalries between RAW and SmackDown Live.

However, it's something that they haven't really done very often. When was the last time a feud began between SmackDown stars on RAW and poured over to the blue brand? (or vice versa, for that matter).

It would be something unique and a great way of going about things. Roman Reigns feuding with a newly debuting superstar would certainly be good, but it's obviously unlikely, especially since Roman Reigns is already feuding against Elias on SmackDown and is set to face him at the MITB PPV.

Either way, it would be nice if WWE surprised us with a debut while Roman Reigns is out, rather than promoting something that people don't want to see.

#1. Terrible - Announcing that he'll be on both brands

The Big Dog runs SmackDown Live now

The brand split has already begun to show quite a bit of transparency, in the sense that superstars are freely floating about between brands. This has worried some fans, because the last time it happened, it was an indication that the brand split was coming to a close.

However, this time around, that is admittedly unlikely, primarily due to FOX's big money deal for SmackDown Live. With that being said, it was quite obvious that Reigns was moved to SmackDown so he can be the top dog during the FOX-era.

However, it would be worse if WWE decided that Roman Reigns was suddenly immune to the brand split and could freely float about between RAW and SmackDown. Roman Reigns should be a one-brand superstar and SmackDown is his new yard, where he's obviously going to become the top star over the next couple of years (at the very least).

#1. Great - Setting up a feud against Goldberg

Who's next?
Ad

We do believe that this is what is actually going to happen on Monday Night RAW. WWE announced on social media that Goldberg will be returning on June 7th for the Saudi Arabia show. That begs the obvious question - "Who's next?".

The answer is and should be none other than The Big Dog himself - Roman Reigns. It makes sense in every way possible. For one, Goldberg has openly stated that the two opponents he wanted to face the most were The Undertaker and Roman Reigns.

Moreover, they somewhat teased a feud in 2017 when they had a dream standoff. While they didn't get into it against each other on the night, they certainly left the door open for possibilities in the future.

Also, Roman Reigns will have yet another high-profile legend on his checklist, further adding to his impressive run. It would also make for a good main event in Saudi Arabia.
