WWE RAW: 5 reasons why the 24/7 Title announcement was lackluster

The RAW after Money in the Bank was hyped up to be a huge event, with some major segments and matches announced for the show. One of the biggest announcements was the revelation of WWE's newest title by the Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley.

Mick Foley came down to the ring with a new hairstyle and a belt on his shoulders covered with a cloth. He then went on to announce the newest title being called the "24/7" Title, which basically is like the Hardcore Championship with a new name.

The stipulation with the title is that it can and has to be defended anywhere, anytime, and against anyone, as long as a referee is present. Also, anyone from RAW, SmackDown, 205 Live, NXT, NXT UK, and even part-time legends can challenge for the title.

While the announcement sounds interesting, the whole segment surrounding the title announcement was in my opinion lackluster.

#5 No crowd reaction at all

Was it just me or did Mick Foley look so disappointed when the crowd literally gave no reaction when he revealed the new "24/7" title?

It's famously said in the business of pro-wrestling that as long as you are able to generate a reaction from the crowd, no matter whether it is cheers or boos, you are doing your job to some extent. Usually, if the fans don't like something, especially a new title announcement, they boo it badly.

But last night was different. Mick Foley tried to create an environment of surprise before announcing the title with the drumrolls and everything, but the moment he revealed the title, there was an awkward silence in the arena which was even visible on the face of the hardcore legend.

Foley tried to keep the situation under control, but the segment had already become awkward by that time.

Mick Foley later revealed on Twitter that he thinks his introductory promo was not up to the mark and took the blame for the crowd's reaction. He then mentioned in another tweet that he wished he had kicked the segment off with a better promo.

#4 The disappointing design of the belt

Before revealing the title design officially, Foley accidentally revealed some part of it while entering the ring. My first observation? "Why is it green!"

When the title was finally revealed, it was clear that this was one of the worst title designs in history. The title has "24/7" written in the middle and the shape of the belt is also not looking good. I really liked the design of the Women's Tag Team Titles and was expecting something along those lines. I am disappointed! Are you?

#3 Weird way to crown the first champion

If the title announcement and design weren't weird enough, WWE decided to have the silliest way to crown the first champion. Foley left the title in the ring and announced a scramble to decide the inaugural champion.

That basically meant the first superstar to run to the ring and pick it up would win it. Seriously? At least hang it on something for the superstar to take it off.

I get the stipulation around it, but shouldn't the first champion be crowned in a proper way? Even a battle royal would have been better than this. Instead, we saw several superstars stupidly trying to stop each-other from picking up the belt.

#2 No top superstars competing for the title

It is rightly said that it is not the championship that makes a superstar but a superstar that makes the championship valuable. We have seen many recent examples of this as The Universal Title has started to mean so much ever since Seth Rollins has won it.

But the situation with the newest 24/7 title is not the same, as no top superstar seems interested in winning it. We basically saw some jobbers fight and run for it seemingly with a deep hidden message that this is their best shot at winning a championship in WWE, which is extremely sad on its own.

#1 A disappointing adaptation of the hardcore title

Why not give us this instead?

The 24/7 Championship in every way is similar to the Hardcore Championship that was in the company for 4 years from 1998 to 2002. The only issue is that it is a toned-down version of the Hardcore Title.

Mick Foley mentioned tonight that there is no "RAW" factor on Monday Night RAW and the new title would help bring it back, but what we saw after that was nothing more than a comedy segment.

No offense to Titus, but he ain't a first champion I can be excited for. Even after all the disappointment, I was hoping either EC3 or Eric Young would become the inaugural champion, but again I was met with my old friend - disappointment.
