WWE presented the latest NXT Takeover this Sunday - Takeover: Portland - to great fanfare. The PPV was hailed as a spectacular show and the fans saw many great moments from the black and yellow brand.

One of the most unexpected moments came when 10-time Women's Champion Charlotte Flair made an appearance on the show and stated that she will face Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women's Championship at WrestleMania 36.

Speaking on a media call after the NXT Takeover: Portland show, Triple H revealed that he was shocked by Vince McMahon's decision to have Flair face Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania.

To be honest, it was shocking to me when it was first mentioned to me. I believe that this was just a decision from Vince's part on understanding the other stories for the women. To me, you have opportunities where you look in a moment in time and ask is Charlotte going after Bayley and Sasha Banks [on SmackDown], does she come after Becky Lynch [on Raw].
You've seen that before and we're looking into something fresh and you see that with Shayna Baszler going after Becky Lynch and you see that in different ways on SmackDown with where they're going. So this was a way for Charlotte Flair needing to be in that big, epic role. I think it really had nothing more to do with that. It's good storytelling and that's what the goal is here, good storytelling across the board." (H/T Fightful)

#4 Update regarding the future of The Undertaker

Ad

It has been reported that The Undertaker will be in action at WrestleMania this year and will be facing former 2-time WWE Champion AJ Styles. It was stated by WrestlingNews.co that The Undertaker wanted to face Styles as he saw a modern-day Shawn Michaels in the Phenomenal One.

Here is what Cagesisde Seats stated:

Undertaker requested to work with AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 because he feels Styles is “the modern day Shawn Michaels” per WrestlingNews.co.

They have also stated that while many speculate this to be The Deadman's last big appearance, that is not true. The Undertaker will not be retiring after WrestleMania 36 and there are already some big plans for him.

That site also says AJ won’t be the end of the road for Taker. The company already thinking about doing something special for the 30th anniversary of his debut at this year’s Survivor Series.

There had been reports which stated that The Phenom might not be in action at WrestleMania 36 as he is being reserved for the Suadi Arabia shows by the company. However, AJ Styles vs The Undertaker is surely a match that all the fans will be excited to watch.

#3 The British Bulldog set to join Hall of Fame this year

WWE Legend Davey Boy Smith is all set to finally become part of the WWE Hall of Fame as per Dave Meltzer of WON.

Smith, who was better known as The British Bulldog in WWE, was the brother-in-law of Hall of Famer Bret Hart. Smith is a former multi-time Tag Team Champion and has also held the Intercontinental Championship in the past.

The British Bulldog passed away in 2002 due to a heart attack. Here is what Dave Meltzer had to say:

So, these, obviously they have announced Batista and the nWo, I don’t know if this is the rest of the Hall of Fame but these are confirmed. The Bella Twins, people know about that, it was out last week along with Jushin Liger. And the other one is Davey Boy Smith.

So Davey Boy Smith will be going into the Hall of Fame. This is, it’s been pushed, the family has pushed that one for years and years and years and years, so this is the year he’s going in. So I guess that’s the main thing there.

With Batista, nWo and The Bella Twins already set to be part of this year's class of HOF, the addition of Dave Boy Smith will truly make it a memorable ceremony.

#2 Kofi Kingston on 'the worst pain' he has felt in-ring

The Smackdown Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston spoke about one of his worst moments inside the ring when he was hit with a steel chair by Rowan during a gauntlet match.

The former WWE Champion was part of a gauntlet match before last year's Elimination Chamber match where one of the competitors he faced was Rowan. Here is what Kofi Kingston stated:

“Rowan hit me so hard, and immediately like my eyes are welling up with tears. I’m just like, oh, and I’m like, I’m almost about to cry. And I’m like, you know what, it’s probably okay if I shed tears because that really really really hurt. They’ll [the fans] understand that hurt so badly.
And I’m just sitting there, I’m like, maybe not. It’s probably not the best idea. Maybe, I’ll hold these ones in. If I let myself go I would have been boo-hooing in front of the world.” (H/T: SeScoops)

Kofi Kingston had not only entered last year's Elimination Chamber match but it also set him up for a shot at Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship at WrestleMania - which the New Day member managed to win at the grand show.

#1 Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair to team-up again

While Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair have a love-hate relationship of late, there was a time when the two were the best of friends. The two even called their tag-team 'Tea-generation X'.

Although Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair are likely to face Shayna Baszler and Rhea Ripley, respectively, at Wrestlemania 36, they will reportedly team up yet again on the March 2nd episode of Monday Night RAW to face the Kabuki Warriors.

The third match that has been advertised for the RAW show in New York is The Kabuki Warriors - the current WWE Women's Tag Team champions - facing the duo of Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, who were a former tag team. The two teams previously wrestled each other back in December at the TLC pay-per-view, where the Kabuki Warriors defeated Lynch and Flair to retain their titles.
