WWE Rumors: Backstage news on 24/7 Title changing hands at Drake Maverick's wedding

What's the story?

Last night, Drake Maverick lost the WWE 24/7 Championship at his wedding when former champion R-Truth crashed it and pinned Maverick amidst the commotion.

PWInsider is reporting that the idea of the title change was pitched to WWE officials by Drake Maverick himself.

In case you didn't know...

The WWE 24/7 Title has become a mainstay on WWE's main roster ever since it was introduced by WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley last month. Although the initial fan reception to the title was mild at best, WWE somehow managed to turn the storyline into possibly the most entertaining angle on both Raw and SmackDown Live.

Titus O'Neil became the first champion on the night the title was introduced, but lost it almost immediately to Robert Roode. Roode didn't get to keep the title for long either, as R-Truth devised a scheme to pin him and become champion. Ever since then, Truth has been losing and winning back the title on several occasions.

The heart of the matter

Last night, Drake Maverick's wedding turned into a nightmare, as Truth came out of nowhere and pinned him to take back the 24/7 Title, as the guests watched in shock and horror. Maverick couldn't believe that Truth would do this at his wedding of all places, but it seems like there really isn't any limitation when it comes to the green belt!

Reportedly, Drake Maverick pitched the idea to WWE writers, who loved it and went ahead with it. The title change that we saw was filmed after the official nuptials had taken place. Joseph Belcastro, WWE NXT's creative team member, played the role of the pastor during the title change.
