WWE SmackDown: 5 Biggest news stories - Mysterio family act like heels, TLC plans for Roman Reigns revealed? (November 27, 2020)

From a WWE Superstar finally stepping up against Roman Reigns to a brand new feud for Sami Zayn, this week's edition of WWE SmackDown featured many contrasting moments.

This episode was somewhat better compared to the go-home show of SmackDown before Survivor Series. That being said, the finishes to each and every match during last night's show included a lot of shenanigans. This was the same problem that many pointed out during the recent edition of WWE RAW, to some extent.

Let's hope that the holiday season doesn't set a lax precedent for the Blue brand, which has been very consistent in terms of quality since SummerSlam.

#5: Sasha Banks got some revenge against Carmella through a pretty cool setup on WWE SmackDown

Sasha Banks has been on the receiving end of consecutive ambushes in recent weeks, thanks to Carmella.

On this week's WWE SmackDown, Banks repaid the favor and attacked Carmella in a backstage segment. Carmella discussed her recent attacks on Sasha Banks in a backstage promo. As she extended her hand for a glass of champagne to end her promo in style, it was Sasha's hand that reached out to her in return.

The SmackDown Women's Champion started brawling with Carmella when the latter realized what had just happened. WWE officials had to separate both of them eventually.

Even though this was a relatively short segment, the transition from Carmella's promo to Sasha's attack was pretty well-executed, in general.

What bugs WWE fans the most is that Sasha Banks is currently featured on one of the biggest shows on the air, named The Mandalorian. Given that she is a mainstream superstar at the moment, Sasha doesn't get as much airtime on WWE SmackDown as compared to other stars on the same show.

#4: Bianca Belair moved up ranks by defeating Natalya and by teasing a feud with Bayley on WWE SmackDown

Even though Sasha Banks is the WWE SmackDown Women's Champion, Bayley is now the one tasked with putting over future stars like Bianca Belair.

The EST of WWE gave fans a great preview of what she is capable of at the WWE Survivor Series event. This week, Belair faced Natalya in a one-on-one match. Bayley was on commentary alongside Corey Graves and Michael Cole during this bout.

Although a defiant win over Natalya would have been a better way to put over Bianca Belair during this week's WWE SmackDown, the last-minute shenanigans with Bayley were a decent way to establish Belair's upcoming feud.

Bayley got eliminated way before Bianca Belair at WWE Survivor Series, but Bayley still holds herself to a higher standard thanks to her historic SmackDown Women's Championship reign. Meanwhile, it has become clear that Belair is destined for greater things on the Blue brand.

A feud with Bayley would be the perfect milestone on Bianca Belair's record before moving on to the SmackDown Women's title scene.

#3: The Mysterio family frequently distracted King Corbin so that Murphy could pick up a victory on WWE SmackDown

Now that Seth Rollins is no longer a threat to the Mysterio family and Murphy, WWE booked a strange angle for Murphy and Rey, Dominik, and Aalyah Mysterio on this week's SmackDown.

A backstage run-in with King Corbin led to a one-on-one match between Corbin and Murphy on WWE SmackDown. Aalyah, Rey, and Dominik Mysterio were present near ringside to support Murphy.

Poor Corbin had no room to improvise during this match, as Murphy's supporters distracted Corbin to a point where it felt odd for these babyfaces to display such heelish attributes. Murphy was able to pick up the win as a result.

It's really strange when fans sympathize with a despicable heel like Corbin, even if that moment only lasts for a short while. Rey and Dominik Mysterio were drafted to WWE SmackDown as a tag team, but they haven't made a noticeable mark on the tag team division yet.

WWE fans hoped that the Mysterio family and Murphy could move on to more exciting feuds after the conclusion of their long-term rivalry with Seth Rollins. But pitting them against King Corbin doesn't exactly sound like the most exciting program on WWE SmackDown, regardless of how good Corbin is as a heel.

#2: Big E teased a substantial program against Sami Zayn on WWE SmackDown

WWE fans were reasonably upset when Big E didn't turn out to be SmackDown's final pick for the men's Survivor Series team. Big E's 'push' has been a topic of conversation for several weeks, even though WWE had nothing substantial planned for him on the Blue brand.

That may have changed this week, as Big E encountered Sami Zayn in a pretty entertaining backstage segment. Big E mocked Zayn's ten-count victory over Daniel Bryan that occurred prior to their backstage interaction.

As for Zayn's match with Bryan, both men fought in a good back-and-forth encounter. Zayn outsmarted Bryan outside the ring. The YES Man was ambushed by Jey Uso backstage, which allowed the Intercontinental Champion to get back in the ring before getting counted out.

Sami Zayn's entire schtick as WWE Intercontinental Champion is that of a squeaky heel who is more capable philosophically than he is in an actual match without any shenanigans. Big E is the perfect opponent for Zayn as a result. This feud is also necessary for Big E to move up ranks on WWE SmackDown, as far as his onscreen push is concerned.

#1: Jey Uso unleashed his brutal side; Kevin Owens openly called out Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown

Jey Uso went beyond his way to help out Roman Reigns at WWE Survivor Series against Drew McIntyre. But it would have been out-of-character for Reigns to acknowledge that he needed someone else's help to get things done.

This is why Reigns criticized his cousin and brought up the fact that no one listened to Jey Uso during the traditional tag team Survivor Series match because they don't respect him.

Jey wanted to impress Reigns after their segment. He ambushed Daniel Bryan backstage, as mentioned earlier. Jey also attacked Otis when the latter made his entrance for a match against King Corbin.

Kevin Owens couldn't take it anymore after Uso jumped Bryan, which is why The Prizefighter was booked in the main event match against Jey Uso. The bout ended in a disqualification when Uso attacked his opponent with a steel chair. But Owens was able to turn the tables with a Stunner.

Roman Reigns watched this play out from his locker room, as The Prizefighter looked into the camera and sent a clear message that he is not afraid of Roman. It became more than apparent that Reigns and Owens are set to clash for the Universal Championship sooner rather than later, perhaps even at WWE TLC.

Daniel Bryan was effectively taken out of the Intercontinental title scene and replaced by Big E, which means that Bryan will probably feud against Roman Reigns and Jey Uso as well.

WWE could even book a tag team match where Reigns and Uso team up against Bryan and Owens. But as of now, it looks like both Owens and Bryan will face Roman Reigns in separate one-on-one matches around the TLC or Royal Rumble season.
