WWE SmackDown Results August 7th, 2020: Winners, Grades, Video Highlights for latest Friday Night SmackDown

We got a recap of Bray Wyatt and The Fiend's actions from last week before SmackDown kicked off with the Firefly Funhouse. Wyatt greeted us and said that everyone was blaming him for what happened to Alexa Bliss last week. He said Strowman was the one to blame and said that the Fiend was waiting for Braun to show up and has taken Alexa hostage.

Matt Riddle kicked things off in the SmackDown ring with the first match of the night.

Matt Riddle vs. Sheamus

Riddle went for an early standing sleeper hold but Sheamus locked in a headlock of his own. Sheamus hit some kicks before Riddle locked in an armbar. Sheamus hit a massive powerbomb and then the chops in the corner before Riddle kicked him off the top rope to the outside.

We returned to SmackDown after a break to see Sheamus hit a trio of backbreakers before Riddle came back with a big sequence of moves for a near fall. Riddle went up top but missed the Floating Bro before taking the White Noise for the near fall.

Sheamus missed a spear and ended up outside where Riddle joined him for a ringside brawl. Chad Gable attacked Riddle mid-match and allowed The Original Bro to pick up the DQ win.

Result: Matt Riddle def. Sheamus via DQ

Matt Riddle took Gable out after the attack and after the result was announced in Riddle's favor, Sheamus took Gable out with the Brogue kick and then hit a second one just to be sure. Not quite the king's ransom Gable was hoping for.

Backstage on SmackDown, Sheamus walked up to King Corbin and threatened to kick his head off before Corbin walked out saying he had to get ready for his match with Jeff Hardy later in the night.

The Dirt Sheet was back on SmackDown with Miz and Morrison and the Guest was Sonya Deville. The mics kept cutting out just like on RAW before they introduced Mandy's Hair as a special guest! It was a wig-puppet with googly eyes and Miz & Morrison were voicing it.

They finally called Deville out and she was trashing on Mandy, saying that she was pathetic and Miz reminded us that no one has heard from Rose since the attack. They kept making fun of Mandy and Otis before Heavy Machinery came out and attacked Miz & Morrison.

Miz & Morrison fled the ring after being beaten up before we headed for a break on SmackDown.


Cesaro vs. Lince Dorado

Cesaro had the upper hand early on but Lince came in with a Hurricanrana as the lights flickered in the arena, it looked like. Cesaro caught him in the ring with a huge elbow drop and Lince kicked out at two.

Dorado hit the springboard stunner and two moonsaults from the ropes but Cesaro caught him before the third. Cesaro hit the Neutralizer and picked up the easy win in the end on SmackDown.

Result: Cesaro def. Lince Dorado

We learned that Miz & Morrison would be facing Heavy Machinery and Otis was furious backstage on SmackDown. Even Tucker was fired up for the match tonight.


We were back in the ring as the lights went out before The Fiend made his entrance on SmackDown before we headed for ads. We returned to SmackDown to see that Alexa Bliss was in the ring and The Fiend was circling her. He went for the Mandible Claw but stopped before Braun Strowman came on the Titantron to say that he was the real monster and would face Wyatt at SummerSlam.

Jeff Hardy vs. King Corbin

Corbin was dominating the match early on and sent Jeff outside for some big shots on the announce desk. Hardy was in trouble as Corbin dodged a Twist of Fate and hit a huge clothelsine after Jeff countered him on the outside.

Back in the ring, Corbin hit a Deep Six for a near fall as the match went on. Corbin locked in a submission in the ring and Hardy was sent outside again when Sheamus rushed in and hit a Brogue Kick.

Corbin was furious as Sheamus caused him a loss via DQ and came outside to fight him as we headed for a break on SmackDown.

Result: Jeff Hardy def. King Corbin via DQ

King Corbin vs. Sheamus

Sheamus picked up the big win on SmackDown

Corbin and Sheamus were in a match as we returned to SmackDown and Corbin took Sheamus out with a clothesline on the outside. Sheamus sent Corbin into the announce desk and then the ring post before sending him back in.

Corbin hit a sideslam before Corbin was lifted up but Sheamus failed to hit the finisher. Matt Riddle came in to distract Corbin and allowed Sheamus to hit the Brogue Kick for the win.

Result: Sheamus def. King Corbin

Match rating: B


Backstage on SmackDown, Bayley & Sasha Banks were having a chat when they were called in for a video conference with Stephanie McMahon.


Big E was backstage on SmackDown and said that he was going to give a hundred percent for his singles career, wherever it might lead him.

Sasha Banks and Bayley were out in the SmackDown ring and Stephanie was on the Titantron. She congratulated them before making it known that she wasn't pleased with their dirty tricks.

Stephanie said Banks & Bayley will be defending their titles at SummerSlam. Bayley's opponent will be selected via a triple-brand battle royale while Banks will face Asuka if she beats Bayley on Monday.

Morrison and Tucker started us off and Morrison took a huge clothesline early on before the lights flickered once more. Otis and Miz tagged in and Otis was steamrolling through his opponent before tagging in Tucker for a double team.

Back on SmackDown after a break, Miz got a near fall on Tucker before Morrison hit a cheap shot from the apron. Otis tagged in and hit some big moves on Morrison but and then the caterpillar but Miz broke the pin. Miz sent Tucker into the barricades and Otis into the steel steps when Mandy Rose came out to attack Sonya Deville.

Result: DNF

The match was called off and the two teams tried to separate them. We headed for another break on SmackDown as Otis and Tucker managed to take Mandy out of the ring and away from Deville.

The two groups were still quarreling backstage when we returned to SmackDown and the lights went out before the Retribution took over the ring, carrying baseball bats and attacked everyone in sight, including the NXT Superstars in the audience.

They were massacring everyone in sight and even the announcers fled as some of the crew picked up steel chairs to defend themselves. The Retribution flipped the announce table and started spraying the ring and the barricades as the carnage continued and one guy cut the ring ropes with a chainsaw. The cameras cut out rather abruptly as no one was quite sure about what just happened.

Episode rating: B

We got a great episode with Bray Wyatt's cryptic promo, a possible heel turn from Braun Strowman, and Mandy's revenge on Deville. We even got a shocking end to SmackDown that no one expected.
