WWE SummerSlam 2020: 5 Superstars who may return at the PPV

SummerSlam 2020 is just under two weeks away, and this year's pay-per-view is set to be an exciting one, with several title matches on the line. The Biggest Party of the Summer will not take place at the Performance Center, as per recent reports. WWE have still not disclosed the location of SummerSlam 2020.

The PPV, though, will be a good one to watch regardless of where it is going to be held. Several titles are on the line, and we could see the culmination of a few feuds at the show.

There could also be a few surprise returns at SummerSlam 2020, to get fans more invested and interested in the show.

#5 Rey Mysterio may return at SummerSlam 2020

Rey Mysterio has not been on WWE television since his eye was goughed out by Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules last month. Many reports had indicated that it was a way to write Mysterio off television as his contract with the company was up.

A recent report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicated that Mysterio may be staying in WWE for the foreseeable future. The report stated that the two parties are closing in on a new deal that will see Rey Mysterio, as well as his son Dominik, in the company.

"I can’t confirm pen to paper, but Rey Mysterio is staying, as was always the betting line outcome of this, but it’s as close to official without confirmation of it being official, and obviously Dominik is a big part of that deal. AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates."

Dominik has been in a feud with Seth Rollins, and the junior Mysterio will make his in-ring debut at SummerSlam 2020, when he faces The Monday Night Messiah.

Following a vicious attack by Rollins on Dominik on RAW, Rey Mysterio tweeted at Rollins and said that the former Universal Champion will "pay" for what he had done to Dominik.

This tweet by Rey Mysterio hints at him possibly returning at SummerSlam 2020 and avenging the savage beating that Rollins afflicted on his son. We could maybe see Mysterio return to help his son defeat The Monday Night Messiah, in Dominik's very first match in WWE.

#4 Nia Jax may return at SummerSlam 2020

Nia Jax

Nia Jax has been in trouble with WWE management, as she was first fined, for pushing a referee on RAW, and then suspended without pay by WWE producer, Pat Buck. Jax then went on to attack Buck. Jax was suspended on the August 3 episode of RAW, but we don't know how long she will be suspended for. There is a possibility that she could make an appearance at SummerSlam 2020.

This past week's WWE RAW, which did not feature Jax, saw another edition of RAW Underground, this time with a few women competing in the show. Shayna Baszler, former NXT Women's Champion, dominated RAW Underground, and it seems like we'll be seeing more of her, and other female Superstars on RAW Underground.

Nia Jax is a name that many fans want to see on RAW Underground, including CM Punk, who wants to see her in that segment of the show. Shane McMahon could maybe recruit her for the show at SummerSlam 2020, and pit her against Baszler.

Baszler and Jax had a match recently on RAW, which was where she pushed the referee and subsequently got fined. Perhaps we could see Jax return at SummerSlam 2020 to get a fresh start.

#3 Sami Zayn may return at SummerSlam 2020

One WWE Superstar who has missed the last few months in WWE is Sami Zayn, who was last seen on WWE television back at WrestleMania 36. Zayn, like Roman Reigns, has stayed at home over the last few months. He was stripped off the Intercontinental title, which AJ Styles later went on to win, and who could defend his title at SummerSlam 2020.

Zayn was unhappy at WWE stripping him of the title and has constantly expressed his displeasure at their decision. He even recently tweeted about AJ Styles' reign as Intercontinental Champion.

AJ Styles' opponent for SummerSlam 2020 hasn't been revealed yet, but the show could be a great way for Zayn to return and make an impact. The former Intercontinental Champion could interfere and perhaps cause Styles to lose the match, in turn turning Styles babyface again.

This could also be a good way for Styles to lose the title without affecting his momentum. SmackDown's mid-card needs a strong heel like Zayn, and with Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura winning the SmackDown Tag Team Titles, the trio of Zayn, Cesaro, and Nakamura could rule the blue brand.

#2 Brock Lesnar may return at SummerSlam 2020

Brock Lesnar, like Sami Zayn, hasn't been on WWE television since WrestleMania 36. At that show, Lesnar lost the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre. The Beast hasn't been booked for SummerSlam 2020, while McIntyre will defend his title against Randy Orton.

Brock Lesnar returning to WWE at SummerSlam 2020 would be a huge surprise, and a swerve that fans would have not been expecting. His return would be similar to his appearance at Money in the Bank last year, where he was a surprise entrant and went on to win the briefcase.

With WWE's ratings having fallen over the last few months, the company may go back to their big-name Superstar, and Lesnar's potential return at SummerSlam 2020 could get fans talking.

There has been constant talk about Brock Lesnar facing off against Bobby Lashley in the future. Although WWE haven't hinted at it, this is one match that has money written all over it. SummerSlam 2020 could be a great way to set up this match, with Lashley not being in any feud currently.

#1 Retribution reveals their identity at SummerSlam 2020

Retribution

Two things that have made WWE RAW interesting in the last few weeks leading up to SummerSlam 2020 are RAW Underground and Retribution. Retribution, the newest faction in WWE, have caused havoc backstage in WWE. The masked faction have destroyed property at WWE's Performance Center. But, they haven't revealed their identities yet. Could that change at SummerSlam 2020?

There have been some rumors about who these masked men and women are. Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue revealed that one member of the faction could be Vanessa Bourne:

"One of the names I mentioned was Vanessa Bourne. That's someone that was mentioned to me by someone backstage, and that is certainly been very strongly suggested. A lot of people have picked up on the hair of one of the members of RETRIBUTION and belive that relates to Vanessa Borne."

Tom also mentioned that Dominik Dijakovic could be one of the members of the faction. The 6' 7" NXT Superstar hasn't been on WWE television since his loss to Karrion Kross. Tommaso Ciampa is another Superstar who has been linked with the group, after he deleted his tweets, much like what Dijakovic had done earlier.

SummerSlam 2020 could possibly be where these hooded men and women reveal themselves, after potentially destroying more property.
