WWE Super ShowDown 2019: 5 possible finishes for Intercontinental Championship match between Finn Balor and Andrade

After WrestleMania 35, it seemed that Finn Balor was destined to face Andrade for the Intercontinental Championship right away. Andrade beat him on RAW during the first night of the Superstar Shake-Up, but Balor regained his momentum the following night on SmackDown by winning against Ali.

The build to Money in the Bank continued the feud for the two, but it also postponed the match until after someone claimed the briefcase. Balor and Andrade still battled each other during the ladder match. Andrade power-bombed Balor off of one ladder and onto a ladder lying prone between the ladder they were on and the ropes.

It was clear that the feud was going to continue, and both directly and indirectly, Andrade has continued to mock Balor at every turn. He at first said he wanted 'to kill the myth of Finn Balor' and that he didn't have respect for Balor.

Andrade's recent match on SmackDown was a quick squash of Apollo Crews, but it brought Balor out in the end. What will become of the Intercontinental Championship at Super ShowDown? Here are five possible finishes. Both men will also probably be in the 50-Man Royal Rumble match, so perhaps the outcome of this match factors into the multi-Superstar bout.

#5. 'The Demon' retains the title in a quick match

Balor rarely loses in his 'Demon' persona.

When Balor won the title initially in his 'Demon' paint and persona, it was in a quick squash match of Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 35. While Lashley didn't get the best booking in that match, 'the Demon' is pulled out for special occasions, and usually only to win.

Lashley had already defeated Balor for the title twice, so he didn't lose face by falling prey to 'the Demon.' Since WWE booked his title win to be in quick fashion, would the same be in store for Andrade at Super ShowDown?

I don't think it would be since Andrade might become a big player going forward once SmackDown moves to Fox. Having him not only lose but lose easily and quickly to Balor would hurt Andrade's momentum towards becoming a future star. It could, however, certainly play out like the other matches that have featured 'the Demon.'

#4. Andrade wins the Intercontinental Championship in clean fashion

Is Super ShowDown where Andrade tastes his first main-roster gold?

Whether it happens in Jeddah or later this year, Andrade is winning some type of gold in 2019. His importance to WWE was showcased when he was moved to RAW and back to SmackDown in the same 24-hour period during the Superstar Shake-Up. Fox wanted to showcase Andrade for its Fox Deportes channels, so I expect WWE to put a title around his waist at some point before the Fall in order to cater to Fox.

It could happen in Saudi Arabia. Some surprise wins or title changes would certainly make the event more memorable even if it does come at the expense of Balor's reign. Andrade has proven that he is more than ready and deserving to be given a run with one of the titles on SmackDown.

While it would likely be to early to crown him WWE Champion, a logical first step could be to have him win the Intercontinental Championship at Super ShowDown. The other main titles are likely to stay with the current holders, so Balor's reign as IC Champion might be over after Friday's contest with Andrade.

#3. Andrade cheats and wins the Intercontinental Championship

Will Andrade do whatever it takes to pick up another win over Balor?

One way that Andrade could win the title is if he somehow cheats in order to win. That usually involves Zelina Vega in some fashion, but with the event taking place in Saudi Arabia, she will definitely not be appearing.

Since she will not be there, he might resort to some other way to dishonorably capture the IC Title, thus giving Balor a reason to try and get the title back. Dirty finishes usually prolong feuds, but with 'automatic rematches' seemingly done away with, will that still continue?

Maybe he hits Balor with a low blow or uses a foreign object, but I think Andrade would pull out all of the stops in order to capture gold. I think he will win the title from Balor at some point, but I'm not sure that Friday will be the day. He might jump start his ascent to the top of SmackDown through nefarious means, thus giving us yet another different person to hold the IC gold in 2019.

#2. Finn Balor retains after a hard-fought match

A fast-paced yet hard-fought match would be best for business.

The best outcome in my opinion is that although I think Andrade topples Balor at some point for the title, Balor retains his title after a fantastic match featuring back-and-forth action. They have wonderful chemistry that they have displayed in both singles' encounters and during the MITB ladder match.

Balor is defined by both his fortitude and ability to take punishment. Andrade is no stranger to dishing out punishment and taking some. His matches with Aleister Black and Drew McIntyre for the NXT Title are good examples of that.

The 50-Man match should take up a good portion of the show, as will both the WWE and Universal Championship matches. Does that mean that Balor and 'El Idolo's' match won't get a good 10-15 minutes of fast-paced action?

Balor deserves to defend the title on a PPV at least once before losing it. The IC Title has been passed around like a hot potato this year. Whether or not Creative wants to let him have that defense is another story altogether.

#1. Andrade gets disqualified

Could Andrade lose it and get disqualified somehow?
Ad

One thing that has been proven during this feud is that Andrade doesn't 'respect' or care about 'the myth' of Finn Balor. He might do anything and everything to win, but it might not be enough. Especially since it will be against 'the Demon', he might become frustrated by not winning and simply snaps.

If Vega isn't present, it could also mean that his flow is disrupted. He's used to having her by his side when he comes down to the ring. He expects to have her ringside to be an insurance policy should things not go his way.

Does the fact that he might be alone cause him to resort to underhanded tactics that get him caught and disqualified? This match isn't easy to predict as most of Roman Reigns' matches, so any outcome is possible.

If the feud is to last after the event, then he might snap, get disqualified but still chase Balor once they return stateside. Him winning the title needs the whole act involved, and the act includes Vega.
