The main event!

WWE Super ShowDown 2020 Preview: 4-month feud finally ending, 7-time World Champion to return?

Welcome to WWE Super ShowDown 2020 Preview! As of this writing, we're less than 24 hours away from the show and things are going to get heated on the road to WrestleMania 36. Normally, we see the Saudi Arabian show happen after the show of shows, but this time, it's happening before.

We have a very exciting main event in hand as Goldberg returns for the first time since SummerSlam 2019 to take on 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt to recapture the Universal Championship that he lost three years ago.

It's incredible to think that three years have already passed since then, but it's been a great few weeks of WWE programming and 2020 has seen the company succeed in building a potentially solid card for WrestleMania 36.

While some criticize Saudi Arabia shows for a lack of overall progression, this one could have a significant impact. Without going any further, let's preview the matches on the card.

#7. Roman Reigns vs King Corbin - Steel Cage

Roman Reigns will attempt to end this

It's been a long time since the Roman Reigns-King Corbin feud begun. November, to be exact, and while we thought that the Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble 2020 was the end of it, it turns out that wasn't the case.

King Corbin challenged Reigns to one more match, this time, inside a steel cage. Reigns had a steel cage match at the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018 and lost to Brock Lesnar controversially.

This time, the steel cage will truly be what ends the four-month rivalry. We certainly hope so and this time we can be sure since Elimination Chamber isn't too long after. Both men are expected to participate in the Elimination Chamber match as well. Until then, they'll settle the scores.

#6. Gauntlet Match for the Tuwaiq Trophy

This is going to be interesting

Admittedly, the Tuwaiq Trophy isn't the most exciting prize one can imagine. Either way, it's a fairly star-studded line-up, with United States Champion Andrade returning from a one-month suspension, AJ Styles making his in-ring return after a month, and Rey Mysterio returning after being attacked multiple times post-Royal Rumble 2020.

We anticipate that The Undertaker could make his big return and confront AJ Styles, possibly setting up a match at WrestleMania 36. As for who will win, it's an interesting pick between Andrade, Bobby Lashley, and Rey Mysterio.

#5. The New Day (c) vs John Morrison & The Miz - SmackDown Tag team Championship

Who will walk out victorious?

The Miz and John Morrison have gained momentum since the latter's return to WWE. They've picked up a feud with The New Day and Morrison has defeated both Kofi Kingston and Big E.

While it hasn't been a heavily-featured match-up, this one could be a show-stealer. A title change is within the realm of possibility.

#4. Bayley (c) vs Naomi - SmackDown Women's Championship

A big match-up

History will be made. While Natalya and Lacey Evans are the first two women to perform in Saudi Arabia, this will be the first official Women's title match - and a big one at that. Naomi made her return after half a year away at the Royal Rumble and while she fell short, she gained momentum instantly.

After Bayley defeated Carmella to retain the SmackDown Women's Championship, Naomi came out for the save. She defeated Carmella the next week to earn a title shot at Super ShowDown and she'll be looking to become the SmackDown Women's Champion heading into WrestleMania 36.

#3. Seth Rollins & Murphy (c) vs The Street Profits - RAW Tag Team Championship

Will it be the end of a brief title reign?
Ad

The Monday Night Messiah Seth Rollins has been on a hot streak of late - courtesy of Murphy and AoP. The Street Profits interjected last week to save Kevin Owens from a vicious 4-on-1 assault and they became the #1 contender's for the Tag Team titles.

They're going to have to do a lot to pry it off the hands of Rollins & Murphy, who have had quite a bit of momentum since becoming Tag Team Champions.

#2. Brock Lesnar (c) vs Ricochet - WWE Championship

A big challenge awaits
Ad

Ricochet has been written off by everybody heading into WWE Super ShowDown. People seem to have forgotten that he got past Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley to earn the opportunity.

However, he hardly had any interaction with Brock Lesnar, minus one before Royal Rumble and one after, where he was hit with an F-5 instantly after becoming the #1 contender. Brock Lesnar has a date with Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36 should he beat Ricochet and like most others, we expect that he will.

However, we also expect Ricochet to put on a great fight. As we've seen, smaller opponents make for much better match-ups against Lesnar, who often tosses them around before struggling with their agility and technical ability.

This should be no different, though Ricochet simply doesn't seem to be ready for a superstar of Lesnar's caliber. Not that he won't be down the line, but right now, it appears to be a premature time for him to challenge for the WWE Championship.

#1. 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt (c) vs Goldberg - Universal Championship

The Fiend vs Goldberg
Ad

This is a dream match that we never even knew we wanted until it was announced. Goldberg appeared via satellite and it was taken over by Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Fun House. This instantly angered Goldberg, who was likely going to declare a challenge for the Universal Championship anyway.

It makes sense since Goldberg had a short reign with the title three years ago before dropping it to Brock Lesnar. He returned in 2019 for two matches - one that went disastrously and the other that went smoothly against Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam.

This time, he's back for one of the most difficult challenges of his career and when he went face-to-face with The Fiend on SmackDown last week, he landed a spear, only for the Universal Champion to disappear.

It's been all mind games as usual and it's going to be a great main event. However, we feel that age is going to catch up to Goldberg and he will likely fall in an attempt to recapture past glory.
