MR Poovamma powers India to gold in 4x400m at Asian Athletics Championship

Sunday, July 07, 2013: In a development that would bring a huge cheer for Indian athletics, the Indian women’s 4 x 400m relay team has won the Gold medal in the ongoing Asian Athletics Championship in Pune, which enabled the team to qualify for the World Athletics Championships.

The Championships are slated to be held in Moscow, Russia from August 10-18, 2013.

M.R. Poovamma, who ran the last leg of the race today to clinch the gold medal for India, is a part of Anglian Medal Hunt Company’s roster of athletes, which was set up by Anglian Holdings to identify and nurture talent in the arena of Olympic sports.

Anglian Medal Hunt Company (AMHC) facilitates the development of identified athletes and helps them in training, providing international exposure, procurement of equipment and gear, access to quality healthcare and nutrition, coaching support, besides giving them cash stipends on a monthly basis.

For the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships in Pune, Anglian Medal Hunt Company had also sent in its physiotherapist, Hari Sankar Varma, to be with Poovamma to aid and support her training.
