Doha, May 16 (IANS): Croatia's reigning World and Olympic champion discus thrower Sandra Perkovic snatched another overwhelming victory to win the Diamond League opener here.

The 24-year-old, a three-time European champion and winner of Diamond League in each of the past three years, hurled 68.10 metres in the fourth round to clinch the win on Friday, reports Xinhua.

Each of her four valid marks were good enough for the gold. Her poorest mark was 65.45m, 0.32m better than Nadine Muller's best of 65.13m, which gifted the 29-year-old German the silver. Australia's Dani Samuels, the 2009 World Champion, who improved her personal best to 67.99m last year, finished third with 64.45m.

"I am satisfied with four points and win here but the result does not make me happy," said Perkovic, who is holding the meet record of 68.23m set in 2013.

"I came here with 71m. That is why my expectations were high. Of course this is the second best throw of the season, but I can do much better."

Perkovic has already showed sound form early this season, throwing an impressive 70.08m at the Croatian Winter Championships in March which was one metre shy of her personal best.
