2015 Denmark Open Superseries Premier: Can PV Sindhu pull off the Marin challenge?

Sindhu will take on second seed Carolina Marin

India’s emerging badminton star PV Sindhu will take on Spaniard Carolina Marin in the semi-finals of the Denmark Open Superseries Premier on Saturday. The 20-year-old who is in good form, recently beating sixth seed Chinese Yihan Wang in the quarter-final.

Having had her best performance in the Denmark Open so far, Sindhu’s real test in this competition will be playing against the second-seeded Spaniard. Both the shuttlers have also not dropped a single set in the tournament so far, which makes for a mouth-watering contest.

Background

Enroute to the semifinals, Sindhu beat top ranked players including Taipese Tai Tzu Ying and former World Champ Yihan Wang. Marin, on the other hand, has beaten Sun Yu, Mette Poulsen and Michelle Li so far. Apart from the advantage Marin holds, it should be an equal contest between the two players.

Head to Head Record

Marin will undoubtedly start as a favourite, but will face a stern test from the Indian shuttler. In four meetings between the two players, Marin enjoys a 3-1 advantage over Sindhu. However, this should not deter the Indian to go all guns blazing against the Spaniard. Sindhu, though not starting as a favourite, will be full of confidence after beating much higher seeded players in the tournament.

The winner of the semi final is expected to meet either China's Li Xuerui or South Korea's Sung Ji Hyun, who will square off in the other semi final, for the title decider on Sunday.
