Ajay Jayaram into the second round of Dutch Open

Ajay Jayaram progressed through to the second round

India’s Ajay Jayaram progressed through to the second round of the Dutch Open Grand Prix after beating Mark Caljouw of Netherlands 19-21 21-17 21-18 in a hard fought contest on Wednesday.

The opening game saw the Dutch man get off a racing start, as he won 7 straight points to go 7-0 up.While Jayaram managed to get back into the contest, the early loss of points meant that he eventually succumbed 19-21 in the opening game.

In the second game, it was Jayaram who got off the blocks initially before his opponent came back to level scores at 5-5. It was a neck-and-neck contest after that until the 9-9 mark, when the Indian started to pick up his game, winning points on a consistent basis to eventually seal the game 21-17 and take the match into a decider.

In the deciding game, both players won 4 out of the first 8 points before Jayaram once again started to assume control of proceedings, clinching points at regular intervals, putting pressure on Caljouw and eventually sealing the game to move into the second round.

He will now face Fabian Roth in the next round.
