Chinese Taipei Open 2015 - Day 2 Results

PV Sindhu exited yet another tournament in the early stages

It was all over for the Indian shuttlers on second day of the Yonex Open Chinese Taipei Open 2015 as the remaining three players lost their respective second round matches.

Unseeded Sameer Verma gave a tough fight to the reigning World Champion Chinese shuttler Chen Long. Verma, who is ranked 144 in the World lost to the World No. 1 Long 19-21 16-21 in a match which lasted for 42 minutes.

The 20-year old Indian started to put pressure on Chen Long from the beginning, building a slender lead of 11-6. But the Chinese ace battled back with an aggressive show after the mid game interval to back level the scores to 18-all. Trailing by 18-20, the Indian managed to save one game point but was unable to save the next one and hence lost 19-21.

Story was a lot similar in the second game as the young Indian lost his momentum after the mid-game interval.

The nation’s hopes for a title were very much depended on the shoulders of the World No. 3 Kidambi Srikanth, but he failed to cross the second round hurdle as he went down to a very lower ranked Indonesian opponent Ihsan Maulana Mustofa.

Mustofa, who is ranked 78th in the men’s singles category defeated the 3rd seeded Indian player 21-19 21-18 in two straight games. This is Srikanth’s fifth consecutive defeat in the second round. He has failed to cross the second round jinx since the India Open Superseries in March. He will next participate in the BWF World Championships which will take place in Jakarta from August 11th to August 16th.

P.V Sindhu was also shown the exit doors by the World No. 3 and Singapore Open Superseries finalist Tai Tzu Ying. The first game went neck to neck till 14-all, but it was at this point that the 21-year old Taipei girl changed her gears as she grabbed the seven of the next eight points to take a game advantage.

Sindhu was absolutely no match to her higher ranked opponent in the second game as she was trailing by seven points prior to the mid-game break. With such a huge lead in hand, Tai faced absolutely no difficulty in closing the game 21-17.With this defeat India’s journey at this year’s Taipei Open came to a sad end.
