Four Indian shuttlers triumph on the first day of Indonesia Masters

PV Sindhu has been handed the top-seed in the tournament

Four Indian shuttlers have qualified for the second round of Indonesia Masters which is a $120,000 Grand Prix Gold tournament, Times of India reports. All the four Indians faced Indonesian opponents in the first round and barring PV Sindhu, the others won their respective matches in two sets.

PV Sindhu, who is also the top seed in the tournament, defeated Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska 21-16, 19-21, 21-12. Sindhu won the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold last week and might well go on to clinch the Indonesia masters. She will now play Indonesia's Wulan Cahya Utami Sukoputri on Thursday in the second round match.

Srikant Kidambi, who is the top seed in the men’s singles section also won his opening round match. He overpowered Indonesia's Wibowo Setyaldi Putra 21-6, 21-12 and will now face another Indonesian, Saputra Vicky Angga.

HS Prannoy, the third seed, also won his respective match as he defeated Indonesia's Panji Ahmad Maulana 21-16, 21-16. Pranoy won the last year’s Indonesia Masters tournament and will play against Chinese Shi Yuqi in the next round.

Eighth seed R M V Gurusaidutt faced another Indonesian in Muhammad Ahdial Octa Khairulloh and trumped him 21-10, 21-3. He will face the winner of the match between Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito and Singapore's Kean Yew Loh.
