PV Sindhu (IND) (6) vs Minatsu Mitani(JPN)

The 2016 Korea Open Badminton Superseries is scheduled to start on 27 September, 2016 in Gyeonggi-do (Seoul), Korea. Parupalli Kashyap is all set to take on third-seeded Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia in the Men’s singles qualification round on the opening day. The other male shuttlers viz., H.S. Prannoy, B. Sai Praneeth, Ajay Jayaram and Srikanth Kidambi have been given direct entry to the round of 32.

Female shuttlers PV Sindhu and Tanvi Lad have been drawn to face Minatsu Mitani of Japan and Anna Thea Madsen of Denmark respectively in the Women’s Singles round of 32.

Kidambi Srikanth, who is seeded 8th, is the highest-ranked Indian in the Men’s Singles event.He has been drawn to face Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent. After his performances in the recently concluded Japan Open where he made it to the quarters, Kidambi should look to draw confidence and progress further in this tournament.

PV Sindhu, who recently won the silver medal in the Rio Olympics, is seeded sixth for the event. Indian fans can expect a commendable performance from the youngster, although Olympic gold medal winner Carolina Marin also features in the draw.

Tanvi Lad who withdrew from the Japan Open is scheduled to face Anna Thea Madsen in the first round of the Open.

Ajay Jayaram, who retired for the match against Kidambi in the pre-quarters in the Japan Open, is scheduled to face Korean shuttler Jeon Hyeok Jin while H.S. Pronnoy and B. Sai Praneeth both face opponents from Chinese Taipei namely, Wang Tzu Wei and Hsu Jen Hao respectively.

India can definitely hope for some glory in the Superseries with PV Sindhu and Srikanth Kashyap being their best bets.
