Seeded second in the tournament, India's Lakshya Sen defeated Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand 21-15, 21-10 in just 35 minutes to claim the title at the Tata Open India International Challenge 2018.

There were huge expectations from this match as Kunlavut had defeated Sen in the semifinals of the World Junior Championships 2018 held last month. But it turned out to be a one-sided affair as Sen's immense control in the rallies couldn't be matched by his opponent.

For the 17-years-old Indian, this is a confidence-boosting win ahead of his senior level career. The former junior World No. 1 has had a great year in 2018, having won gold at the Asian Junior Championships, silver at the Youth Olympics, bronze at the World Junior Championships along with a few other titles.

Sen is considered the future star of Indian badminton, and it's not hard to see why.

In women's singles, Ashmita Chaliha continued her amazing form as she defeated eighth seed Vrushali Gummadi 21-16, 21-13 to win the title. Unseeded in the tournament, Chaliha defeated many high ranked players to reach the final. She had earlier won the Dubai International Challenge this year.

In men's doubles, the pairing of B Sumeeth Reddy and Arjun M.R. defeated the top-seeded Malaysian combination of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 21-10, 21-16 to claim gold.

In women's doubles, it was a disappointing day for India as the top-seeded Indian duo of Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvashi S Ram went down tamely against the second-seeded Hong Kong combination of NG Wing Yung and Yeung Nga Ting 21-10, 21-11.

In the mixed doubles, second seeded Thai duo of Nipitphon Phuangphuapet and Savitree Amitrapai defeated top-seeded Hong Kong duo of NG Wing Yung and Chang Tak Ching 21-13, 21-16.

Lakshay Sen will next be seen competing in PBL season 4, where he will represent the Pune 7 Aces. On the other hand, B Sumeeth Reddy will be seen representing Chennai Smashers.
