Indian badminton did not have the kind of 2018 that everyone has expected as none of the Indian players were able to win any big world tour title this year. But Sindhu helped India to forget about this upsetting year by winning the Bwf world tour finals 2018. She defeated former world champion Nozomi Okuhara in the finals.

This title win has helped Sindhu to get back to her No. 3 position. She jumped three places from No. 6 to No. 3.

The world tour finals runner-up Nozomi Okuhara too had jumped three places to be ranked No. 2 in the world.

Despite failing to qualify for the season-ending finale for the third year in a row, Saina Nehwal still manages to hold on to her previous week's ranking of No. 9. Saina Nehwal recently got married to her teammate Parupalli Kashyap.

Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying continues to be on the top of women's singles rankings with 100267 points whereas the reigning world and Olympic champion Carolina Marin has dropped two places to No. 6.

In men's singles, the world tour finals debutant Sameer Verma jumped two places to achieve his career-best ranking of No. 12. Sameer missed to make it to the finals of season-ending finale despite having a match point against Shi Yuqi of China. Shi yuqi eventually went on to win the title defeating Kento Momota in the finals. Despite the loss, Momota still continues to rule the men's singles ranking.

On the other hand, Kidambi Srikanth is static at No. 8 positions. Whereas B Sai Praneeth and H S Prannoy both have jumped one place each to be ranked No. 22 and No. 20 respectively.

In men's doubles, the Indian duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankyreddy jumped two places to be ranked No. 16. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia continue to be on the top of men's doubles ranking with 104483 points.

In women's doubles, the Indian duo of Ashwini Ponnapa and N Sikki Reddy maintained their previous week's ranking of No. 23. The Japanese duo of Sayaka Hirota and Yuki Fukushima are still static at No. 1 position.

In mixed doubles, the Indian duos of Ashwini Ponnapa & Satwiksairaj Rankyreddy and N Sikki Reddy and Pranav Jerry Chopra have maintained their respective positions of No. 22 and No. 23 respectively. The Chinese duo of Zhang Siwei and Huang Yaqiong rules the Mixed doubles rankings with 100960 points.
