Parupalli Kashyap knocked out of Singapore Open

Kashyap’s dream run finally comes to an end

Ace Indian shuttler and Olympic quarter-finalist Parupalli Kashyap went down in the semifinals of $300,000 Oue Singapore Open Superseries. Kashyap, who was playing his first Superseries semifinal of the year and fifth overall lost to the World ranked 13 Hong Kong shuttler Hu Yun 22-20,11-21,14-21.

World No. 15 Kashyap, who won the Syed Modi International Grand Prix gold title in January lost to the shuttler from Hong Kong in a tough match, which lasted for 58 minutes. Kashyap, who had a win-loss record of 1-2 against the 33-year old Yun prior to this match, looked in supreme touch in the opening game as he took a strong seven point lead before the mid-game interval.

The two players seemed engaged in a battle of smashes and were at par with each other when it came to baseline rallies. Trailing by 15-19, Yun made a good comeback as he clinched the next four points in a row to back level the scores. Kashyap kept his calm at this decisive moment as he grabbed the next point to make it 20-19.He failed to convert the first game point opportunity but was lucky enough to win the next two as he won the game 22-20.

The second game was just a reverse of the opening game as this time Yun took a strong seven point lead before the break. The shuttler from Hong Kong was dominating the larger rallies as Kashyap started to make a lot more errors with his net-shots and judgement.With such a good lead, Yun faced absolutely no difficulty in closing the second game 21-11.

In the decider, Yun once again took a 7-3 lead early on and kept his nose ahead, despite a fighting, Kashyap who could only manage to reduce the gap to 11-6 at one stage.Yun never lost the hold from the match and sealed the deal comfortably in the end.
