Saina Nehwal to miss Singapore Open

Saina Nehwal will skip the Singapore Open starting this week

2015 India Open champion Saina Nehwal has withdrawn from the Singapore Open scheduled to start from April 7. She is taking a break after an hectic schedule that saw her playing in the All England Championships, India Open and the recently concluded Malaysia Open.

The Hyderabadi lost in the All England finals to Carolina Marin before winning the India Open. Saina went down to Olympic champion Li Xuerui in the semifinals of the Malaysia Open and lost her No. 1 ranking.

"Last month was hectic. I have played three tournaments and reached the finals at two. I didn't want to overburden myself. It is a very important year so I thought let me train for a week and play at the Asian badminton championship," said Saina.

P V Sindhu will also be missing from action at the Singapore Open as she is recovering from a stress injury. The 19-year-old is likely to be back for the Asian Badminton Championships from April 21-26 at Wuhan.

P C Thulasi is the only Indian woman in the fray in singles.

In women’s doubles, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will be up against Korea's Go Ah Ra and Yoo Hae Won.
