Video: Top seed Lee Chong Wei cruises through to semi-finals at World Championships

Top seed Lee Chong Wei scored an impressive quarter-final win at the Badminton World Championships in Guangzhou.

The badminton keeps on coming and a shock in the women’s draw Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwalof India was knocked out by Bae Yeon-ju.Bae edged a tight first match but then completely crushed her opponent in the second winning it 21-9 to send one of the favourites packing.

In the men’s singles quarter-finals, Nguyen Tien Minh made history by beating Jan O Jorgensen to become the first Vietnamese player to make a BWF World Championships semi-final.It went to a deciding third game, and Nguyen finally got the Dane to succumb for a 21-8, 17-21, 22-20 to book his place in the semis.

World number one Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia also moved into the semi-finals on Friday, destroying Indonesian eighth-seed Tommy Sugiarto 21-6, 21-9. He was just too good for his opponent.

In the women’s singles quarter-final, fourth-seeded Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand ended the surprising run of Spain’s Carolina Marin 21-18, 20-22, 21-15 to set up a semi-final clash of 18-year-olds with India’s P.V. Sindhu.

In the women’s doubles, Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark beat home favourites Bao Yixin and Zhong Qianxin of China, 21-17, 13-21, 21-18.They were just a little pleased with themselves.
