Who said what: India celebrates PV Sindhu's Silver at the Rio Olympics

PV Sindhu
With an Olympic Silver at just 21, Sindhu has announced herself on the stage in a grand fashion.

PV Sindhu fought hard but had to eventually settle for a Silver after she lost the Final against Spain’s Carolina Marin at the Rio Olympics 2016. The 21-year-old Indian produced a miraculous comeback to win the first set but World No.1 Marin proved too good for her in the later sets and won the match 19-21, 21-12, 21-15.

However, Sindhu’s medal is a great boost to the sagging Indian spirit after a rather disappointing Olympics which promised much more than the 2 medals earned till now, the other coming from Wrestler Sakshi Malik.

Sindhu became the first Indian shuttler to win a Silver on the Olympics stage, bettering Saina’s Bronze effort in London. The plaudits came pouring in from all sides for the girl from Hyderabad who is another of Pullela Gopichand’s protege who is making India proud on the global badminton stage.

The Badminton Association of India announced for the shuttler a reward of 50 lakhs, while announcing another 10 lakh reward for her coach Gopichand.

Sindhu’s silver became only the second medal that India has been able to achieve in this Olympics, and it came as no surprise that her fellow countrymates went berserk after her Silver medal. From Prime Minister to the Sports Minister to superstar Rajnikant, all took to Twitter to let the badminton star know that they are proud of her effort that won her the Silver.
