4 possible destinations for Pittsburgh's Josh Harrison

Los Angeles Dodgers v Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison has been very unhappy with the team management of late. At 30 years old, he wants to contend for a World Series Championship now. With the Pirates trading starting pitcher Gerrit Cole to the Houston Astros and outfielder Andrew McCutchen to the San Francisco Giants, it is clear that the Pirates are heading in a different direction.

Harrison called out the Pirates management, stating he doesn't want to be with them if they don't plan on contending. Harrison has requested a trade and we shall see if the Pirates management give him his wish.

Harrison's batting average last season was .262 with 16 home runs and 47 RBIs, along with 12 stolen bases. Here are some teams that he could be traded to:

#1 New York Mets

New York Mets v Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets could use an everyday third baseman. They haven't signed one in free agency yet and this might be the best way for the Mets to get one. Harrison is owed $10 million this season. He is owed $10.5 million in 2019 and $11.5 million in 2020, but Harrison can buyout after this season. If he buys out after this season it would be a $1 million buyout and after the 2019 season, it would be a $500,000 buyout.

The Mets could trade outfield Juan Lagares and two prospects. Prospects like third baseman Jhoan Urena (#15 Mets prospect according to MLB.com) and left-handed pitcher P.J. Conlon (#23 Mets prospect according to MLB.com) make sense. Lagares' batting average last season was .250 with three home runs and 15 RBIs, along with seven stolen bases.

He is owed $6.5 million this season and $9 million next season. Lagares is owed $9.5 million in 2020, but he could buy out after the 2019 season and it would be a $500,000 buy out. Urena's batting average in the minors last season was .277 with 14 home runs and 70 RBIs, along with 18 stolen bases. Urena is projected to reach the majors in 2019.

P.J. Conlon's record in the minors last season was 8-9 with a 3.38 ERA. In 136.0 innings pitched, he gave up 130 hits and 53 runs. Conlon walked 38 batters and struck out 108 and also recorded a save. He also had three shutouts. Conlon is projected to reach the majors sometime this season.

#2 New York Yankees

New York Yankees Introduce Aaron Boone As Manager

The New York Yankees were a win away from going to the World Series this offseason. They acquired Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins and they made Aaron Boone their new manager. If you are the Yankees, why not get another solid clubhouse guy and make Boone's life as easy as possible in his first season?

It looks like the Yankees aren't going to resign Todd Frazier, and Chase Headley isn't a good option at third base. The Yankees like Miguel Andujar a lot in their system to play third base this season, but Harrison would be a good role model for this team. I'd trade for Harrison and give up third baseman Miguel Andujar (#5 Yankees prospect according to MLB.com), outfielder Clint Frazier, and right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga (#26 Yankees prospect according to MLB.com).

Andujar played in five games last season with the Yankees and his batting average was .571 with zero home runs and 4 RBIs, along with a stolen base. In 125 games in the minors last season, his batting average was .315 with 16 home runs and 82 RBIs, along with five stolen bases. He is also a very good fielder.

In 39 games with the Yankees last season, Frazier's batting average was .231 with four home runs and 17 RBIs, along with one stolen base. In 74 games in the minors, his batting average was .256 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs, along with nine stolen bases. A log jam in the Yankees outfield would most likely move Frazier.

Loaisiga's record in the minors last season was 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA. In 32.2 innings pitched, he gave up 17 hits and seven runs. Loaisiga walked three batters and struck out 33.

#3 St. Louis Cardinals

Minnesota Twins v St Louis Cardinals

Although the Pittsburgh Pirates do not generally trade in the division, they would probably find a way to do so. The Cardinals lack depth in the infield and Harrison could also play in the outfield. Harrison would be another positive player inside the Cardinals clubhouse.

The Pirates probably wouldn't ask for much from the Cardinals but let's say Harrison for outfielder Dylan Carson (#16 Cardinals prospect according to MLB.com) and catcher Zach Jackson (#24 Cardinals prospect according to MLB.com).

Carson isn't projected to reach the majors until 2020. In the minors last season, his batting average was .240 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs, along with six stolen bases. Jackson is projected to reach the majors in 2021. His batting average last season was .098 with no home runs and five RBIs. The Cardinals are looking to get back to the playoffs this season and make a serious run at a World Series title.

#4 Cleveland Indians

Even though the Indians have Francisco Lindor at second base and Jose Rameriz at third base, the Indians could use some versatility in the outfield since they lost Jay Bruce.

The Indians have suffered heartbreaks in the playoffs the past two seasons, but they will be ready to contend for a World Series title once again this season. A good trade in this case would be Harrison for prospects, right-handed pitcher Shane Bieber (#11 Indians prospect according to MLB.com), outfielder Connor Capel (#13 Indians prospect according to MLB.com), and second baseman Tyler Krieger (#19 Indians prospect according to MLB.com).

Bieber is projected to reach the majors in 2019. In the minors last season, his record was 10-5 with a 2.86 ERA. In 173.1 innings pitched, he gave up 185 hits and 64 runs. Bieber walked 10 batters and struck out 162.

Capel is projected to reach the majors in 2020. His batting average in the minors last season was .246 with 22 home runs and 61 RBIs, along with 15 stolen bases. Krieger is projected to reach the majors this upcoming season. His batting average in the minors last season was .225 with six home runs and 43 RBIs, along with 12 stolen bases.
