The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed star pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the 10-day disabled list with left bicep tendonitis.

The move was made before the Dodgers' game against the San Diego Padres in Monterrey, Mexico on Sunday and he has reportedly travelled back to Los Angeles to be examined by famed surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Los Angeles recalled Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City to replace him.

Injuries are not new for Kershaw, who has been placed on the DL in each of the last three seasons after suffering a herniated disk in 2016 and a strained back muscle in 2017.

But it is another blow to an injury-hit Dodgers team. Shortstop Corey Seager underwent season-ending elbow surgery on Friday and the Dodgers also lost pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, who will not return until after the All-Star break, to a torn groin muscle.

Three-time National League Cy Young Award winner and former MVP Kershaw is 1-4 this season with a 2.86 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 44 innings.
