Giancarlo Stanton was at it again on Thursday, belting his 58th home run of the MLB season.

Miami Marlins slugger Stanton added to his season tally with a homer deep into the left-centre bleachers against the Atlanta Braves.

All-Star Stanton, who became the first player to hit 58 homers in a season since Ryan Howard in 2006, has stated this term that he considers Roger Maris' mark of 61 home runs hit in 1961 as the record.

Sammy Sosa had three seasons of more than 61 homers (1998, 1999, 2001). Mark McGwire hit 70 in 1998 and 65 a year later. McGwire's record was broken in 2001 when Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs. Sosa, McGwire and Bonds all hit those marks under the suspicion of steroid use.

The Marlins have just three games remaining after Thursday's contest in Miami.

Even though the Marlins have been out of the postseason chase for a few weeks, Stanton is still considered a National League (NL) MVP contender.
