Nationals acquire closer Herrera from Royals
MLB trade season began on Monday with the Washington Nationals acquiring Kansas City Royals closer Kelvin Herrera.
Washington (38-31) are currently only three games behind the young Atlanta Braves in the National League (NL) East, but entered Monday on a three-game losing streak.
Herrera, 28, provides the Nationals with another elite arm out of the bullpen.
It is unclear what his role will be, but the team's current closer, Sean Doolittle, has been efficient this season.

Herrera is 1-1 with a 1.05 ERA and 14 saves for the struggling Royals this season. It is possible he will move to the eighth inning in Washington, though.
