Both Team Colombia and Team Canada desperately needed a win when they faced off in the World Baseball Classic. Heading into the game, both teams had a 1-1 record. With each pool consisting of five teams, every win matters.

Team Canada, backed by their pitching staff, shut out Team Colombia 5-0. The result improved Canada's record to 2-1, leaving them tied with Team USA for first place. Colombia dropped to 1-2 with just one game left in pool play.

A loss here would surely have taken Team Canada out of contention for the knockout rounds. But the win didn't come without its costs. All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman had to exit the game in the third inning due to a hamstring injury.

Fans will have to wait for updates on the significance of Freeman's injury. He's an important part of the team and they'll need him in the lineup if they want to keep playing at this level.

"A massive win by Canada and what a pitching performance. Assuming Mexico beats Great Britain tonight, Canada-Mexico becomes a de facto win-or-go-home game," one fan tweeted.
"What a win! THAT was a great game," said another fan.

If Team Mexico beats Team Great Britain, it will result in a three-way tie for first position in Pool C. Team Canada and Team Mexico play on Wednesday. This game could be a "win, and we're in" situation.

If you're a Team Canada fan, the game against Team Mexico will be one you would not want to miss. History can be made as they have never advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic before.

The World Baseball Classic is about to get a lot more entertaining

Some baseball fans were a bit worried about how the World Baseball Classic would play out as a ton of top talent ended up decommitting. The consensus was that the level of play would take a hit, but that hasn't happened. Fans have been treated to some good games, with the level only getting better as we get closer to crowning a champion.

As we get into the next round, the talent gap between teams will diminish. The match-ups will be closer, and it may come down to who is available to pitch. This is when having a manager with experience in these types of tournaments becomes important. They can win or lose games for their squads.
