Senegalais Lions Celebrate their entry to quarterfinal of the 2013 AfroBasket

Senegal and Nigeria grabbed last two quarterfinal spots in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations – AfroBasket, which is being held in Cote d’Ivoire.

Senegal nicknamed “Senegalais Lions” booked their place in the quarterfinals with 67-57 victory over Rwanda.

Rwanda took the first quarter 15-13. In the second quarter, both teams scored 20 points each as Senegal trailed 33-35 at the half. But Senegal came back strong after the break to take third quarter 14-7 and the last quarter 20-15.

Abdou Badji led Senegal with 20 points and 8 rebounds while Maleye Ndoye added 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

In the other game, Nigeria cruised into the quarters with a 112-75 thumping of Central African Republic (CAF).

Nigeria’s Stan Okoye had game-high 29 points while Max Kouguere scored 22 points for Central African Republic (CAF).

  4. Senegal vs. Nigeria

The 2013 edition of AfroBasket is being held at Cote d’Ivoire’s capital city of Abidjan from 20 to 31 August 2013, with 16 African nations fighting for the prestigious title. Three spots for the Spain 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup are also up for grabs.
